Cardi B has a lot to be thankful for – and a lot to avoid mentioning.

The “I Like It” rapper took home a trophy for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist at the 2018 American Music Awards Tuesday, and her baby girl Kulture was on her mind. In an acceptance speech that didn’t mention the woman who Cardi says questioned her mothering abilities, artist Nicki Minaj, she talked about being a mom.

“I really want to thank my daughter. And not just because she’s my daughter,” she explained. “When I was pregnant, I was so influenced to be, like, ‘Yo, I got to do this, I got to show people wrong. I got to prove people wrong.’ Because they said I wasn’t going to make it after I had a baby.”

Cardi also thanked her husband, Offset, her music team and Jesus.

When it was Offset’s turn to accept an award for Favorite Duo or Group – Pop/Rock with the Migos, Cardi B was giddy with excitement. He thanked her for always being supportive, leaving the rapper grinning from ear to ear.

Her appearance at the AMAs comes a month after Cardi got into a fight with Nicki Minaj at a New York Fashion Week party, leaving the new mom injured. Cardi later said the altercation went down because because her mothering skills were being disparaged.
