Aldi's new kitchen range looks just like Smeg's – but is more than £200 cheaper

Aldi has just launched a new kitchen range which bears a striking resemblance to products from designer brand Smeg.

And, with it being Aldi, they come at purse-friendly prices.

The supermarket’s new retro home appliance range, which is available to pre-order online now, includes a kettle for £19.99, a matching toaster for £19.99 and a multi-functional microwave for £44.99. All are available in classic cream, black or matte grey.

According to the product description, the Aldi toaster has seven levels of browning – depending on how you like your toast – and handy functions to defrost, reheat and cancel.

The Aldi kettle offers boil dry protection, auto-shut off and a removable limescale filter.

Shoppers have noted the difference in price between the products, when they look very similar.

A Smeg kettle from Amazon costs £159.95  and the toaster is priced at £129. So if you were looking to buy the set, it would set you back £288.95 – compared to Aldi’s £84.97 (which also includes the microwave).

Just like all of Aldi’s special buys, once they’ve gone, they’re gone – so anyone looking to get their hands on the new range must pre-order or be quick in the shops when they launch this Sunday.

However, while the set is undoubtedly a good deal, it’s worth pointing out that there are other products out there for similar prices.

George at Asda is currently selling a lookalike cream Breville kettle for £24, down from £39 in the sale. Likewise, Amazon is selling a budget-friendly Russell Hobbs kettle for £22.

On the toaster front, Asda also has a retro cream toaster on sale for £24 and Argos is selling a Cookworks cream toaster for just £6.49.

It’s also important to stress that products from designer brands, such as Smeg, often come with additional features – which can explain the higher price tag.

The Smeg kettle, for example, includes a variable temperature control feature so that different hot drinks can be paired with water at the right temperature.

But if it’s just the style you like, there are cheaper options.
