You’ve Been Cleaning Your Blender Wrong This Whole Time

As if we needed another TikTok trend, the latest viral set of videos actually provides some useful life hacks — including how to easily clean your blender. Say goodbye to the days of scrubbing your vessel only to see specks of food left over; this hack makes cleanup quick and easy. Instead of unpacking your machine piece by piece, just grab some dish soap and turn on the warm water.

According to Taste of Home, you simply fill the blender with warm water, just about to the halfway point. Then add a drop or two of dish soap. Turn on your machine for about thirty seconds, depending on how much cleaning your vessel needs. The quick movements and warm, soapy water can dislodge the old food remnants and leave you with a clean blender you can quickly dry off with a towel.

If your blender needs a little more TLC, run the cycle again or rinse with just water. The Kitchn recommends adding really hot (almost boiling) water to your blender if it needs a deep clean — and if it can handle high temperatures. The outlet suggests adding in vinegar or lemon for a more natural, effective cleanse.

You should still deep clean your blender on occasion

While the blender cleaning hack is simple and handy, it’s still important to scrub your appliance on a regular basis. According to The Kitchn, you should disassemble your blender after multiple uses to scrub out any lingering debris or stuck-on items. First, Taste of Home suggests, add equal parts baking soda and water to the vessel and run the blender for about 30 seconds. This combination can release the tough stains while disinfecting.

If you notice a clouded blender or dark stains from spices such as turmeric, you can use varying ingredients to release them. Clean My Space suggests combining lemon juice with baking soda and water, then running it through a cycle. The outlet also notes that ¾ cup of vinegar combined with ¼ cup baking soda and another ¼ cup water can penetrate deeper into set-in stains. Additionally, you can grab powder dishwasher detergent and add water, run through a cycle and then let it sit for a few hours to achieve the same results.

While it may not be rocket science, blender cleaning is especially important if you’re making a daily smoothie every morning. Luckily, a quick, easy clean will do the trick most of the time!
