Vanderpump Rules Star Scheana Marie on Why She's 'Being Proactive' by Having Her Eggs Frozen

Scheana Marie is celebrating having her eggs frozen.

“Today’s the day! Bye bye eggs!” Marie, 33, captioned a Saturday Instagram post of herself lying in a hospital bed. “For me personally, this has been a very easy, painless and awesome experience. Everyone is different I’m sure. I am single and no where near trying to have a baby.”

“So for me — yes, this was an easy process and when I say painless, I’m referring to the needles which I have no problem with,” she continued.

Marie — whose divorce from ex-husband Michael Shay was finalized in April 2017 — went on to explain why she wanted the procedure, saying that her anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) level is “insanely low” for her age, 28.

AMH, determined via blood test, is an indicator doctors use to estimate remaining ovarian reserve, or egg supply. According to the Center for Human Reproduction, the average AMH level for women age 33 to 37 is 1.7 ng/mL.

“It was an awesome experience to see everything that goes into freezing eggs,” the Bravo star continued. “My doctor highly recommended for me to do this to have a better chance at a healthy baby down the road. I have learned so much about fertility and everything that goes into freezing eggs and IVF. You never know what will happen in life.”

Fans showed their support in the comments, with one writing, “Love you Scheana. You’ve always been my favorite. Sweet and beautiful. Best of everything with this endeavor.”

Another follower chimed in, “What you’re doing is amazing!”

However, a few commenters weren’t happy with how “glamorous” Marie made the procedure seem. “Anyone who has gone through IVF knows it’s anything but glamorous,” one said. “For those of us who HAD no other choice, these sort of posts minimize the real fight.”

“The failed rounds, the meds, the blood draws, all of the side effects both physical and emotional not to mention the financial stress,” the user continued. “I couldn’t fathom posting a pic of myself after all of it. Good for her taking the initiative but come on.”

Marie updated her caption, including that she did not want to “minimize” other women struggling with infertility.

“I’m not trying to have a baby right now, so this was an easy decision for me to make and thankfully I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford it,” she said. “My heart goes out to all of the women struggling with infertility. I could likely be in that boat one day which is why I’m being proactive now with such low AMH levels.”
