Gretchen Rossi Says She Was Accused of 'Faking' Her Pregnancy by a Body-Shamer on Social Media

Gretchen Rossi isn’t letting naysayers ruin her baby bliss.

The pregnant former Real Housewives of Orange County star chatted with PEOPLE during the launch event for Patrick Ta’s beauty collection in Los Angeles on Thursday, where she opened up about being on the receiving end of some unsolicited comments on social media concerning her body.

“The hardest part [of pregnancy] for me has been social media and a little bit of body shaming,” said Rossi, 41. “People are telling me, ‘You need to eat, you look unhealthy, you’re hiding.’ “

“Somebody said I’m wearing Spanx in all my pictures. Somebody said I’m faking the pregnancy and that I have a surrogate,” she continued. “Like, crazy s— that people have come up with.”

Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley Find Out the Sex of Their Baby During Extravagant Reveal

Rossi’s remarks come about two weeks after she shared a sweet video of her daughter of the way’s ultrasound. In the clip, she could be heard cooing over her baby girl as she watched her move around on the monitor.

Some of her followers were quick to criticize the mom-to-be in a previous post — comments Rossi didn’t hesitate to clap back at in her ultrasound video’s caption.

“Doc said she is the perfect size and growing perfectly, so for any of those people that tried to body shame me after my last post and say I am not healthy or eating enough, you can go suck it,” she wrote. “The doc said every women [sic] carries differently and that I am doing great! My weight gain is on point and baby’s size is on point, so that’s all that matters! I eat all day long and plenty of food! My doc also said because I have a longer torso, and was fit before it sometimes takes longer to pop out and show.”

“Remember to please be kind and accept every women’s [sic] journey as their own! I am sure I will start to really show and get a big ass bump soon enough — and then I will start to hear I am too big now #cantwin,” she added.

In her Thursday conversation with PEOPLE, Rossi said she’s keeping up with a fitness routine as her baby girl grows — not “crazy exercising,” but “doing my weights and doing my elliptical and going for walks with my dogs.”

“But I’m not hardcore in the gym at all,” she emphasized. “This is a high-risk pregnancy because I’m older and because it took me so long to get to this point, so I’m just kind of taking it easy.”

As for whether she and longtime partner Slade Smiley have decided on a name for their daughter on the way yet, Rossi teased that they have but are “not telling anybody yet.”

“We totally agreed [on it],” she shared. “I’ve had a name that I’ve wanted since I was a little girl and then the only part that we had a hard time with was the middle name. But the middle name, we just picked last week, and we’re very excited about it.”

In the meantime, the mom-to-be is satisfying her pregnancy cravings (sweets, In-N-Out Burger and the “cliché” pickles and ice cream) and putting together the nursery for her little one with Smiley, 45.

“It’s just so special when you love your partner so much and see this little life that you both created together and see a part of you and a part of him in this little life,” Rossi told PEOPLE of what she’s most looking forward to in becoming a parent for the first time. “I just think there’s going to be no feeling in the world like that.”

“I think that’s what I’m most excited about, is to see her personality come out and see this little life that [Slade] and I created out of love,” she added.

Does she think she’ll be overprotective? “Of course,” Rossi admitted. “It took me 41 years to have this baby. I’m probably going to be crazy protective.”
