The Australia Zoo is a magical place, especially considering the Irwins’ special Alice in Wonderland-like tradition. Bindi Irwin let fans in on their special “unbirthday” celebration for her 2-and-a-half-year-old daughter Grace, and it might just be the cutest thing we’ve ever seen.
Irwin shared a video on Instagram of her daughter walking though the Australia Zoo dressed up in a sweet animal-print sundress. Later, it cuts to Irwin at a gift shop with her husband Chandler Powell. “Grace, you can choose anything you want!” Irwin tells her daughter, as she walks around holding a stuffed giraffe and a stuffed elephant.
“So Grace is 2-and-a-half today, which means that we celebrate our unbirthday,” the Crikey! It’s The Irwins star explained in the video, as she shows more stuffed animals to Grace. “So we let her choose anything she wants in the Australia Zoo elephant shop to celebrate.” How adorable is that? With tigers, rhinos, zebras, and more to choose from, it’s a tough choice for a toddler!
As she runs through the shop with a stuffed elephant clasped firmly in her grasp, she says she wants a giraffe, too. Irwin looks at the camera with a smile, “It’s very cute!” she says. Even she can’t get over how adorable her daughter is, which is making us smile. The entire thing is just so wholesome!
After she chooses her two toys, she walks around saying, “Hi giraffe, hi elephant.” She’s in love with her little animals, and it’s so precious!

Later, she points out a stuffed “ring-tailed lemur” to her mama, showing off her impressive zoo knowledge.

“This is the first time we’ve ever done this at the zoo for Grace. Just go wild in the shop,” Irwin explains in the video, adding, “She’s very happy.”
When she leaves, Grace tells her mom, “Elephant had a haircut.” She shows the camera and Irwin zooms in on the tiny little hair on top of the stuffed toy. “He does have a cute little haircut!” she responds. You can’t watch this video without your heart filling up with joy. It’s all just too sweet.
In her caption, Irwin explained. “We have a family tradition of celebrating ‘unbirthdays’ when you turn a half. ❤️ Happy two and a half unbirthday to our beautiful Grace Warrior.” Kids grow up so fast, it actually makes sense to celebrate their half-birthdays (and, um, we would love to do this for ourselves, too!). Unbirthdays are our new favorite tradition!
Unsurprisingly, the video was filled with sweet comments. The Black Mambas, an all-women anti-poaching organization, commented, “❤️Happy un-Birthday Grace! We love giraffes too😍.”
Someone else commented, “Tell me I’m wrong … if the internet was only filled w/ Irwin content, the world would be wholesome AF and just down right lovely!!! Fyi — I’m not even a little bit wrong!” We totally agree!
“Happy Unbirthday Grace! 🎉You are already so inspiring like the rest of your family! 💕” another person wrote. “Your joy is heartwarming to see! 🐘🦒”
“We need to protect the Irwins at all costs. They’re precious and exactly what we need,” someone else said.
Powell also commented, “So much happiness in one video. I love you both ❤️.”
Grace celebrated her second birthday in March with the cutest photos. She had a cottage-core themed garden party, where Grace looked a little like Alice in a gorgeous blue dress with striped frock tied with a floral bow.
Irwin also wrote a sweet tribute to her daughter at the time. “Our TWO year old girl! Happy Birthday to my whole world. 💗 Grace Warrior, you are the sunshine that fills our lives.”
She added, “Every day I am amazed by your hundreds of words and smiles, fascination for the natural world/every animal you discover and your adventurous soul. You see wonder in everything and remind me that the world is made of magic. Being your mama is the best part of my life. I love you with my entire heart, for all of my existence.”
