Hold on to your remotes — Dream Home Makeover is coming back for Season 2!

The hit home renovation series starring Syd and Shea McGee will be returning to Netflix with all-new episodes on January 1, and PEOPLE got an exclusive first look at the trailer, above.

On Season 1 of Dream Home Makeover, which premiered on October 16, the Utah-based couple and founders of Studio McGee took viewers behind the scenes on their stunning design projects and into their busy home lives — and fans can expect even more dramatic before-and-afters and emotional homeowners for Season 2.

“This is why I do what I do,” Shea says near the end of the trailer, as the clip shows tearful families seeing their refreshed homes for the first time. “Any house can be transformed into the perfect place to call home.”

The new season will also feature more of Syd and Shea’s adorable daughters — Wren, 7, and Ivy, 4 — as well as more Shea-approved tips for anyone hoping to turn their own house into their dream home, no matter their budget.

The season was filmed during the pandemic with a skeleton crew and plenty of iPhone footage from the McGees in order to be in line with Covid protocol. "It was definitely quieter, but thanks to technology, we made it work!” Shea tells PEOPLE.

In order to make sure everyone stayed safe and healthy, Shea says their producers would actually call in via Zoom, and the crew would carry around a portable speaker so everyone could hear their directions. Filming days were also longer due to plenty of sanitation procedures they had to put in place.

“In the end, all of these changes and being at home more reinforced our commitment to our belief that good design has a huge impact on how we spend time in our homes and the way we feel,” Shea says.

“It has been interesting to launch a show in the middle of a pandemic because there have been no public events and all of our interviews have been conducted remotely from our home,” she adds of their newfound Netflix fame. “We don’t go out much, but the growth we have seen in our social media following has been huge!”

The Instagram page for Studio McGee has gained about 600,000 new followers (for a total of 1.9 million!) since before the show launched.

The McGees have certainly had a big year. In addition to their show, they also released a memoir, the New York Times bestseller Make Life Beautiful, which debuted on October 27.

In the book — which is part memoir, part design guide — the stars share the real story of the years of financial struggles, relationship woes and self-doubt that came before their rise to the top of the interior design world.

They also have a home collection at Target as well as their own decor line called McGee & Co.

The family finished building their own dream home for their family in Salt Lake City from the ground up and moved in earlier this year.

Season 2 of Dream Home Makeover airs January 1 on HGTV.
