Gardening expert on how to keep your garden free of weeds
Learning how to stop weeds is an important part of caring for any gardening, as if left unchecked weeds will overwhelm any garden, kill flowers or crops and undo any gardener’s hard work.
However, there are two very simple methods that gardeners can use to easily kill weeds from their garden, and it does not involve using chemicals or homemade kitchen remedies.
Lee Burkhill, also known as the Garden Ninja, is a multi-award-winning garden designer and BBC television presenter of the gardening show ‘Garden Rescue’. Lee has used his years of experience to explain his best gardening techniques in order to “get people to discover the power of gardening.
In a video, Lee has explained two methods to remove stubborn weeds effectively without taking up too much of your time. He said: “You’ll be pleased to know that this doesn’t involve breaking your back, using a trowel, using weed killer or anything other methods you see online.
“My methods are quite different, all you’re gonna need is two key pieces of equipment to get rid of weeds at lightning speed.”

Bin-liner and tent-peg method
The first method which Lee said “couldn’t be simpler” only needs a bin liner and tent pegs to naturally kill off weeds
Lee said: “This is a really good method if you are trying to kill off a lot of weeds, especially in preparation for a new flower bed, or a new working garden where you want to grow fruit or vegetables.”
All you have to do is take the bin line and use the tent pegs to pin it over a large area with weeds. Lee explained: “What that will do, is reduce light from helping the weeds photosynthesise
“It will also reduce moisture and nutrients that they need and they will slowly but surely die back. It’s a really good, environmentally sound method of killing weeds on mass.”
However, the only disadvantage of this method is that it can take a while for the weeds to naturally die off, and estimated to work between one month or up to six moths to fully remove the weeds.
Lee said: “If you’re a patient soul, which I am not, it’s a great method but if you’re not patient like me then the weed burner is a fantastic method both to get out some catharsis and kill those weeds.”

Weed burner method
After years of being a gardener, Lee said a weed burner which runs on butane has been the most efficient way for him to get rid of weeds.
Lee said: “Now, I’ve tried all those homemade remedies for getting rid of weeds: Vinegar, table salt, washing up liquid, or a combination of all three.
“Whilst they do work, the results are quite unpredictable and also, who can be bothered faffing around sloshing vinegar all over your garden when all you want to do is sit out and enjoy it!”
When using a weed burner with butane gas, Lee said the weeds will “almost instantaneously” die off, without any build-up or knock-on effects on the local environment or wildlife.
With a lot of weed killers, the plants can become resistant over time but that is not a problem with butane weed killers. Lee said: “With this bad boy there is zero resistance and it’s great fun.”
All that you need to do with a weed burner is buy it, attach the gas canister and be aware of a valve which regulates the amount of gas being used. Then, simply click it and point it as weeds.
However, this method uses fire and it is very important to make sure simple safety rules are followed. Lee said: “It goes without saying that you should wear protective footwear, goggles and gloves. Make sure there are no small puppies running around, as well as friends, family, children or other animals then you are good to go.”
Lee added that the weed burner “can be used on paths, beds, borders, pretty much anywhere and it only targets the weed that you are taking your fury out it.”
