While TikTok trends come and go, you might want to make this one stick as the video platform promotes a sleeping hack that could help you doze off in two quick minutes. Between loud neighbours and bright street lights, your bedroom could be a super tricky environment for a restful shut-eye. However, the military method was designed to work in intense army environments so your flat should be just fine.

According to TikToker Justin Agustin, this “mind-blowing” method promises to make you fall asleep at “any time” and “any place”.

While this sleep hack was developed to help soldiers doze off on the battlefield, that doesn’t mean you can’t reap the benefits in your good old bedroom.

If this trick can work in such a high-stress environment, your home should be a piece of cake.

What’s more, 96 percent of people who mastered this technique report they can really fall asleep two minutes after shutting their eyes.

A few easy steps and six weeks of practice is all it takes to nail the “simple” military sleep method.

The first step is to calm your body and systemically shut down every part from head to toe.

You should start by relaxing your forehead muscles before moving on to your eyes, your cheeks, jaw – all while focusing on your breathing.

Continue this relaxation process by moving onto your shoulders – “drop them as low as you can and keep your arms loose to your side, including your hands and fingers”, the TikToker instructed.

Agustin said: “Imagine this warm sensation going from your head all the way down to your fingertips.

“Now, take a deep breath and slowly exhale, relaxing your chest, your stomach down to your thighs, knees, legs, and feet.

“Again, imagine this warm sensation going down from your heart all the way to your toes.”

While you’re following these steps, it’s “really important” to clear your mind of any stress.

To do this, you just need to think about one of the following two scenarios.

Augustine said: “One – you’re lying in a canoe on a calm lake with nothing but a clear-blue sky above you.

“Two – you’re lying in a black-velvet hammock in a pitch-black room.”

If you start getting distracted, you should repeat “don’t think” to yourself for ten seconds. And that’s it, practice and sleep away.

Don’t take just the TikToker’s word for it as a sleep expert Doctor Katherine Hall from Somnus Therapy also swears by this practice.

Doctor Hall said: “The military sleep method uses a lot of the same techniques found in yoga and meditation.

“The process of slowly scanning your body from head to toe is effective at combating insomnia for a few reasons.

“When you take a mental scan of your body, you’re shifting your focus from any wandering or anxious thoughts.

“As you turn your full attention to relaxing the muscles in your face, chest, stomach, legs, and then, the entire body, those nagging thoughts seem to melt away.

“Since anxiety is one of the most prolific thieves of sleep, any method that redirects your attention has a good chance of being successful.”
