Kate Middleton was ‘stung’ by the Queen’s criticism over her 'lavish' lifestyle and lack of job before she married William

According to author Katie Nicholl, The Queen expressed "grave concerns" over Kate not having a full-time job two years before she got engaged to Prince William and found her lavish London lifestyle "unpalatable".

Before she married into the Royal Family and officially became the Duchess of Cambridge in 2011, Kate lived in the exclusive London neighbourhood of Chelsea with her younger sister Pippa.

But while she was working part-time for her parents' business Party Pieces, Kate enjoyed frequent holidays with her Prince William as well as making the most of London's nightclub scene.

In her 2010 biography William and Harry, the royal author wrote: "If [Kate] was not with William at Balmoral then the couple were skiing or holidaying on Mustique.

"Kate was there so often the press dubbed her 'Queen of Mustique', a title that had previously belonged to Princess Margaret."

The Queen's younger sister Margaret famously enjoyed lavish holidays on the Caribbean island and would often host parties at her private villa.

However, The Queen found the future Duchess' jet-setting lifestyle increasingly problematic as Britain faced a financial crisis in 2008.

The royal author added: "Britain was now in recession and such frivolous displays of wealth were unpalatable to The Queen.

"She is one of the hardest-working Royals, despite her age, and that a future member of the family was without a full-time job was unacceptable to her."

Unsurprisingly, Kate was  "stung by The Queen's criticism" .

After being advised not to publicly react to The Queen's comments by Clarence House, Kate did reveal that she was working for her parent's multi-million pound company Party Pieces as a photographer.

Following this, Katie claims "a black-and-white photograph of Kate was posted on the company website.

"But it was deemed a step too far and within weeks it had been removed."

Acknowledging Kate's future in the Royal Family, The Queen – who herself was accused of being out of touch after giving her Christmas speech in front of a gold piano – organised for the future Duchess to get involved in charity work.

Katie added: "The Queen had quietly suggested that Kate affiliate herself with a charity and, by September, she was involved with Starlight, which works with seriously and terminally ill children."

In more Royal Family news, people have been claiming Meghan Markle's pregnancy is fake because she "never wears tights".

And the Royal Family feared "Kate Middleton would become the second Camilla" when her and Prince William split.

Plus Prince William "hurt Kate deeply" by secretly visiting "exquisite-looking" socialite Isabella Calthorpe in the summer of 2004 as he lived the single life.
