I bought an old 1991 school bus & turned it into a luxury tiny home in 6 months – but people there's a big design flaw | The Sun

A MAN has shared how he managed to turn an old 1991 school bus into a tiny luxury home in just six months.

It was a tight squeeze but the DIY fan managed to fit a full size bathroom, a full size bed and a massive TV inside the tiny home.

The creator who goes by President Chay shared clips of the six month renovation in a YouTube video online.

The DIY fan said he bought the bus on Facebook.

He said: “My brother and I bought this old school bus from a guy who collected trucks on Facebook and honestly it was an awful shape but it had a good engine and transmission.”

The creator said when he got the bus it was incredibly sticky and had a lot of things that needed to be removed.

He said: “The first step is obviously to completely gut the bus.”

Chay said he faced spiders, wasps, roaches and even a termite infestation while taking apart the bus.”

Once the demolition and deep cleaning was completed they could finally start building.

First they put down flooring and planned to keep the original bus roof and paint it white, but then they found a leak.

Next step was setting out the layout with framing and replacing the bus door with a real front door.

Wiring and water supply was installed and then insulation.

The bathroom which will act as a mini wet room was then tiled with bricks and Chay said he planned on using the same in the kitchen.

Chay added a generation box which he covered with the old metal from the roof of the bus to protect from the rain so the bus could have working electricity on the road.

The DIY fan built a loft so the bus holds an additional bed.

He said: “We wanted this bus to be able to sleep four people comfortably.”

The kitchen is fitted with a fully functional sink while the mini sitting room has unique loungewear.

Chay said: “Because this is only a 20-foot bus the living room couldn't have a couch in it so what we did is built two benches facing each other on either end.”

Chay replaced the old bus seat and made custom doors so the bus room had privacy.

The DIY fan's brother installed an AC unit underneath the bus and then painted the bus blue after they mistakenly painted it black.

Once the tiny home was finished it racked up over 8 million views online, but a few viewers pointed out the DIY fan made a fatal flaw.

YouTube viewers said Chay should reconsider where he placed his condenser.

One user said: “Just a recommendation, as a Master HVAC Owner, I would reconsider where you put that condenser. Under the bus will not allow it to pass the air through the coil thus causing a problem with your airflow through the evaporator.”

“Meaning, the temp will not keep up in the heat. It will freeze over etc.. plus being in the dirt, salt, dust it’s just going to wreak havoc on that system. Put it on the back of the bus.”
