Finnish artist creates incredible lifelike sculptures of her family and friends — by knitting

Liisa Hietanen, 36, recreates everyday scenes and has even made an entire bathroom out of wool.

She uses steel rods to create the frame for the life-sized models and then recreates the tiniest of details using just wool.

Her sculptures include her brother, her teacher from first school and local residents from her village.

Liisa, who has been knitting since she was ten, uses steel rods to create the frame before crocheting the tiniest of details.

She said: “I ask people to model and we meet and create the pose.

"I photograph the person from all directions and take measurements.

"We might go for coffee. Meanwhile, I study their characteristics.”

Liisa, of Hämeenkyrö, Finland, left with one of her subjects, said people are stunned when they see her work exhibited.

She said: “They often feel they know the person and their reactions are warm and familiar.”
