Wayne Lineker has hit out at ‘weirdo basement losers’ who called him a ‘creep’ for pushing women into a pool while choosing a date.
The 58-year-old, who is the brother of football legend Gary Lineker – caused controversy with a video in which he picked a date from a group of women in swimwear, pushing each one he rejected into a swimming pool.
Lineker, the owner of multiple clubs in Ibiza, was seen squirting sanitiser into his hands after telling the camera: ‘It’s time to pick which Dream Doll I’m taking out on a date’, referring to the dancers who work at his clubs.
The businessman proceeded to push five of the women, dressed in bright orange swimsuits, backwards into the pool, before Love Island star Katie Salmon was ‘left standing’.
Katie, founder of the Dream Dolls, proceeded to walk off arm in arm with Wayne, proclaiming herself the ‘champion’.
Lineker shared the video with the caption: ‘Last doll standing gets a date with me! Not sure if they wanted pushing in or not.’
While many of his followers found the video funny, others weren’t so impressed, with the post being widely slated on social media.
One person commented: ‘This is foul – grow up’, while another tweet labelled Lineker a ‘grade A creep’.
Journalist Mic Wright tweeted: ‘Imagine if Hugh Hefner were cloned using scraps of meat from a cheap butcher’s shop in a covered market. Imagine he was raised in a tanning machine and fed entirely on Wetherspoon’s breakfasts and Creatine. Congratulations, you have imagined Wayne Lineker’, while another tweet read: ‘I refuse to believe Wayne Lineker is an actual human and not just just a Fast Show character.’
And after boxer Stacey Copeland asked her followers how the video made them feel, responses included: ‘He is literally their employer – it’s so wrong. God knows what goes on when the cameras aren’t rolling’ and ‘I’m so sick of women being so objectified by any man- he’s gross & the ladies’ participation is odd & embarrassing.’

I’m still here and going nowhere ?♂️ I was trending No1 in the Uk on twitter yesterday with 75% love and 25% hate. But it was the hate that sparked the trending ..It’s the 75 that I care about ..the rest of you mean absolutely nothing to me and never will so hate all you like. Just please remember I have children that I love and care about and your weirdo basement loser comments may hurt them and that’s not cool. Thing is 25 you all come and ask me for a pic pretending we’re mates. What’s that about .. #getalife #getoutthebasement #thanksforthelove75
Others suggested that Lineker was making a joke out of Chris Tarrant’s 90s game show Man O Man, which saw women pushing rejected men into water.
However, Lineker wasn’t fussed about the backlash.
He wrote on Instagram: ‘I’m still here and going nowhere ?♂️ I was trending No1 in the Uk on twitter yesterday with 75% love and 25% hate. Katie defended Lineker, writing: ‘You all need to chill out ? Wayne is my business partner we’re just having banter videos done! We are all independent nice women. Half of my girls are taken. Wayne has banter. Don’t look to deep into social media you fools.’
Other Love Island stars praised Lineker, with Anton Danyluk writing: ‘Such a humble, kind man! And above all an unbelievable businessman. Keep smashing it bro.’
Chris Hughes commented: ‘Thanks for last week mate, loved it. Great guy, very generous’, while Gabby Allen wrote: ‘You’re the best.’
Meanwhile, Wayne’s son Freddie left a heart emoji under the post.
Lineker is the owner of successful clubs including O Beach Ibiza, which has been visited by Molly Mae Hague and Tommy Fury, Charlotte Crosby and Holly Hagan in recent weeks.
