Former Family Fortunes host Vernon Kay, 46, has revealed that he’s never been asked to appear in BBC favourite show Strictly Come Dancing – despite his wife Tess Daly, 51, presenting the hit show for the past 17 years. The TV star made the astonishing claim and admitted it would be “weird” to feature on the dance show alongside his model and TV host wife.

Strictly? Never been asked once

Speaking to Jamie Laing and Francis Boulle on their Private Parts podcast, the TV star made the surprising admission.

Turning the conversation to Vernon’s Strictly presenter wife of 18 years, Jamie assumed that the former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! finalist had been asked to take part in the hit show before.

He said: “Tess, your lovely wife, she’s done it for how many seasons now?”

“16 seasons,” Vernon mistakenly responded.

Tess has been presenting the show since it’s launch in 2004, when she was hosting alongside the late Sir Bruce Forsyth.

Jamie continued: “I’m sure you’ve been asked before, but if there was ever a point where you were asked [to do Strictly] again, would you go, ‘I might do that.'”

Seeming baffled at the question, Vernon asked the podcast host: “Strictly? Never been asked once.”

“What?” asked Jamie.

“Yeah, never been asked. Never ever been asked,” clarified the TV star.

Referring to the fact that his wife hosts the BBC favourite show, he continued: “Because I think it would be weird, I really think it would be weird.”

The Made In Chelsea star agreed: “It would be weird wouldn’t it? It’s sort of crossing that line.”

Vernon continued: “Because Tess is pretty much, ‘say what you see’ and I know that if I finished a dance, she would – she wouldn’t be able to help herself.

“She’d say, ‘You did that better in the kitchen.’

“She can’t hide anything, you know,” he added.

Vernon finished in third place in last year’s I’m A Celebrity and his new game show Game Of Talents is set to air this weekend.

Elsewhere Tess previously discussed “solo parenting” while her other half was in Wales filming the ITV favourite show.

When quizzed on challenges she faced while Vernon was competing in the ITV reality show, Tess revealed that several appliances in the house broke.

She divulged: “The printer, the dishwasher, the dryer [all broke] – basically everything you need when solo parenting.

“I was like, ‘Okay, Vern, I really do need you around the house’…we’re soulmates, me and Vernon.”

Speaking to Women’s Health, she added: “It’s been a ride. And I love him more than ever.”

Game of Talents is on ITV Saturday at 7.30pm.
