Usain Bolt offered contract by Central Coast Mariners

Usain Bolt has been offered a contract by A-League side Central Coast Mariners as the Olympic 100m champion continues his football career.

Bolt’s agent Ricky Simms has confirmed his client has earned a contract with the A-League club.

“In response to the media stories, yes, Usain has been offered a contract," Simms said. "I do not want to make any further comment at this stage."

Though Mariners manager Mike Mulvey insists he is unaware of the offer.

“You have a look at our front line today and you wonder whether he could get into any of those positions, wouldn’t you?” Mulvey said. “I do appreciate how important this story is for the rest of the world.

“You’re just talking about speculation, I don’t know anything about what you’re talking about and that’s the honest truth.”

Should Bolt pen terms with the Mariners it will be a surprise after Mulvey’s belief it would take until new year to decide on the former 100m sprinter’s suitability to the beautiful game.

“We’re going to go back, have some dinner, have a little look at the game that’s on … then get on a plane tomorrow, go home and start preparing for Melbourne City next week,” he said. “That’s the plan.”

Bolt turned down a two-year deal to join Maltese champions Valletta.

"Usain does not wish to pursue this Malta opportunity," Simms told ESPN.

"There is a lot of interest in Usain playing football. We regularly receive similar approaches."

Valletta chief executive Ghasston Slimen wished Bolt all the best after failing to land the Jamaican.

"We wish Usain Bolt all the best with his football career. The Valletta FC offer is always on the table."
