‘The Vampire Diaries’ Cast & Crew Celebrate 10 Years, Reveal Moment They Knew It Was Special

Can you believe it’s been 10 years since The Vampire Diaries premiered?!

The hit CW show ran for seven and a half years, eight seasons, and 171 episodes, from September 9, 2009 until March 10, 2017.

To celebrate the milestone anniversary, the cast and crew, including Nina Dobrev and creator Julie Plec dished on the show, and the moment in the pilot when they knew they had something special.

The moment happened when Elena met Stefan for the first time in the pilot.

“It was such an important scene for our characters, and Paul and I jumped [in] headfirst,” Nina told TV Guide.

“When we were shooting [the scene], it was so potent and so magical that we all did look at ourselves and each other and say, ‘If this works for everyone else like it’s working for us, I think we’re going to be good,’” Julie added.

10 years ago a show called The Vampire Diaries premiered. I remember filming the pilot in Vancouver like it was yesterday…cast pasta nights in hotel rooms, all of us renting a van to spend Easter weekend together in Whistler, and an unforgettable night thanks to a party bus and our love of belting Oasis songs out at 2 AM. Back in LA I’ll always cherish the night at @julieplec ‘s with all of us gathered in her living room to watch an early screening of the Pilot Episode. Driving around that summer I also remember singing a song called Never Say Never by @thefray so loudly every time it came on the radio, because it closed out our pilot episode and I thought it was a good omen that our show would make it (not knowing at the time how much that song would change my life in a whole other incredible way) . As a cast, crew, and production we were lucky to spend 8 years together making a show so many people loved and continue to love and watch today. My thumbs might fall off trying to type out how much playing Caroline Forbes meant to me… SERIOUSLY! 10 years later and I can’t Thank @julieplec and @kevwilliamson enough for the opportunity of a lifetime. Thank you to all the fans of TVD who keep this special series alive in your hearts ♥️ #tvdforever
