Spandau Ballet fans very impressed with Tony Hadley’s replacement

Spandau Ballet’s loyal supporters had feared the worst when Tony Hadley announced his departure in 2017.

But Tony’s replacement Ross William Wild has been welcomed with open arms following his first TV interview with the band on Wednesday’s This Morning.

Despite Tony’s long years with the New Romantics, the new five piece spoke of how easy the transition had been with 30-year-old Wild.

"We’ve done a show live together, and that was sort of the proof in the pudding," said Steve Norman. "And that energy on stage was awesome, it was electric. And it made us up our game a little bit."

Gary Kemp said morale was high and the large age gap between the OGs and Wild didn’t bother them in the slightest.

"Ross brings in a lot of energy… I think he makes us feel younger," explained Gary.

This Morning host Eamonn Holmes then grilled the band on how they’d left things with Hadley on his departure.

"I wish him well," said Martin Kemp.

"I’m always going to love Tony," he added. "We grew up together. I wish him well whatever he does.

"He wanted to stop, but we wanted to carry on – so what do you do? i love being in this band, I love spending time with these guys and doing this is the only opportunity i get to do it.

"For me, carrying on with Spandau was a no-brainer," said the former EastEnders heartthrob.

And loyal fans were very glad the band did give touring another another shot given by the Twitter reaction.

"WOW, the new frontman of SpandauBallet is absolutely gorgeous! " praised one.

"Good to see Spandau Ballet making a comeback. Had some really great songs over the last 30 plus years," added another.

While a third joked: "New Spandau ballet line up looks great, the new lead singer seems a really nice guy not big headed, not like the old one, what’s his name ? Tony something"

This Morning continues on ITV weekdays at 10:30 on ITV.
