Sir Michael Caine has revealed he’s feeling emotional as he prepares to sell memorabilia from his long-spanning career and personal life in order to downsize from his sprawling £3.75 million Surrey mansion.

The actor, 88, is hoping to auction items worth up to £50,000 each – including film posters, props and artworks – at London’s Bonhams auction house alongside his wife Shakira, 75, in March. 

The emotional star admitted: ‘It’s going to be quite a wrench to part with so many treasured parts of my life and career, but it’s the right time to be moving on.

‘I hope these mementos will give their new owners as much pleasure as they have given us.’

While hoping to boost his £60 million net worth, he’s pledged to donate the predicted £15,000 proceeds from one portrait of himself to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

Not only is he hoping to bag himself £12,000 from a Rolex wristwatch, the Oscar winner will also flog two pairs of his iconic spectacles together.

A director’s chair from Michael’s 1971 crime film Get Carter, in which he starred as gangster Jack Carter, has been predicted to sell for £1,200.

The cockney star will also peddle the poster from his 1966 romantic comedy Alfie, as well as a two-piece Italian-marketed posted for his 1964 film Zulu.

Furthermore, a 1920 masterpiece by LS Lowry created with black chalk and pastel is expected to be bought for £18,000.

Proving himself to be quite the art lover, his Marc Chagall painting Les Amoureux Dans L’Arbre is set to receive bids for as much as an eye-watering £50,000. 

Michael will also hand over a portrait of himself produced by Lincoln Townley, where £15,000 is hoped to be raised for the NSPCC.

Their relationship began when the Dark Knight star spotted the actor in a British television advertisement for Maxwell House coffee in 1971.

The couple share daughter, Natasha while the Alfie star has another daughter Dominique, 65, from his previous marriage with actress Patricia Haines.

With its own cinema that cost the actor £120,000 to build, they bought their stunning, sprawling seven-bedroom mansion in Surrey for £1 million in 1999.

The grand eight-acre Keston Lodge estate near the town of Leatherhead comes with a barn conversion with a bar, an indoor pool, a hot tub and a two-bedroom cottage. 

Last year, Sir Michael revealed he was not stepping away from the Hollywood mainstream after prompting retirement rumours during a recent interview.

The veteran star, was appearing on BBC Radio 5 to promote his latest movie Best Sellers when he bemoaned the lack of opportunities for older actors.

He referred to the film as ‘my last part, really,’ noting that he has limited mobility and adding: ‘There’s not exactly scripts pouring in for a leading man that’s 88, you know?’

Sir Michael has since clarified that he will not be walking away from the acting world in a tongue-in-cheek post shared with followers.

Using his iconic catchphrase, the British star wrote: ‘I’m not retiring, and not a lot of people know that!’ 

Sir Michael Caine: The Personal Collection auction will take place at Bonhams on Wednesday March 2 in London.
