Scott Wilson Finished Hershel's 'Walking Dead' Season 9 Scenes Before He Passed

The Walking Dead actor Scott Wilson has passed away, but not before he reprised his beloved character, Hershel Greene, for one last time.

On Saturday, October 6, the official Twitter account for The Walking Dead comics announced Wilson’s passing.

“We are deeply saddened to report that Scott Wilson, the incredible actor who played Hershel on #TheWalkingDead, has passed away at the age of 76,” the tweet read. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in paradise, Scott. We love you.”

AMC, the network behind the popular series, also issued a statement following the news:

“Scott will always be remembered as a great actor and we all feel fortunate to have known him as an even better person. The character he embodied on The Walking Dead, Hershel, lived at the emotional core of the show. Like Scott in our lives, Hershel was a character whose actions continue to inform our character’s choices to this day. Our hearts go out to his wife, his family, friends and to the millions of fans who loved him. Scott will be missed.”

Wilson was scheduled to appear at New York Comic-Con, where it was announced his character would appear in the show’s upcoming ninth season. Hershel died in the show’s Season 4 midseason finale and hasn’t been seen since.

Jon Bernthal, who played Shane Walsh, and Sonequa Martin-Green, who played Sasha Williams, will also appear.

While there are no details on the nature of the appearance, fans have speculated the three will be featured in a flashback episode.

In addition to The Walking Dead, Wilson was known for The Great Gatsby, Pearl Harbor, In Cold Blood and The Ninth Configuration.

He appeared in CSI, Netflix’s The OA, and voiced Hershel on Cartoon Network’s Robot Chicken.

He is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Heavenly Koh Wilson.

RIP to a wonderful actor.
