Naga Munchetty, 45, found herself a caught little short – in both senses – after she made a dash to the toilet but was then late to announce what was next coming up on her Radio 5 Live show. After her colleagues threw it back to the host in the studio following their reports, there was dead silence on Naga’s end which left them wondering what was going on and forcing the presenter to apologise profusely for the delay when she eventually made it back on-air.

Three hours on-air and a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do sometimes!

Her colleague could be heard saying: “Back to you Naga,” followed by an uncomfortably long pause.

Another of her co-stars chimed in to break the silence: “Let’s start with the sport, shall we?”

She began to inform listeners of the latest goings on in the sporting world before there was a scuffle noise down the microphone.

“Katy…” Naga giggled as her colleague replied: “Hello – I was like, ‘Has she gone to the loo or something?'”

The BBC Breakfast presenter cackled: “That’s exactly what happened.

“I’m still trying to figure out what happened, I usually get it right!” she moaned, disappointed she had messed up the timings.

“Three hours on-air and a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do sometimes!

“Poor Nick, I did shout through to the studio but I didn’t press the right button once again,” she winced.

Naga continued to explain that one of the gallery team had rushed out to try and find her, and when they eventually came across her heading back from the toilet, queried where she had been.

“They came out and were like, ‘Where did you go?’ ‘I went to the loo, I told you,’ ‘You didn’t press the right button,'” she relayed the conversation so listeners understood what had happened.

“I just hadn’t timed and judged the tea and coffee balance right this morning, so I apologise to Nick, who’ll be listening going, ‘There she is!'”

“As long as you hadn’t dozed off, that’s the main thing!” her co-star cheekily added.

Elsewhere, Naga found herself in a world of pain after she dislocated her knee for a second time just hours before going live on BBC radio.

The presenter sustained the original injury two years ago and discussed the “embarrassing” scenario on her show during a chat about the nation’s fitness levels during the third lockdown.

Pondering whether she and her co-star Rachel felt “more or less” fit during the most recent lockdown, the pair touched on previous injuries as Naga divulged how she had suffered the mishap while en-route to work, but had not let it slow her down.

The star continued: “Shall I tell you something that happened to me today?

“I dislocated my knee a couple of years ago. I fell over and dislocated it again – and it’s really embarrassing – this morning right outside the office.”

Rachel was naturally shocked by this confession and immediately wanted to see if her colleague was feeling alright.

Naga explained: “It’s kind of a bit sore, it popped straight back in but it’s a bit sore.

“But luckily I went for two runs this weekend, so I’m alright.”

Naga’s Radio 5 Live show airs weekdays at 10am.
