Myleene is a parent to Ava, 12, Hero, nine, from her relationship with her ex-husband Graham Quinn, and Apollo, 11 months, with her current partner Simon, 45.

Candid: Myleene Klass has admitted that dating as a single mother with children is ‘terrifying’ in a new candid chat (pictured heading to work at Smooth Radio on Monday)

Graham, a former bodyguard, walked out of their six-month marriage on her 34th birthday. Ava was three and Hero had just turned one.

Myleene discussed life as a single mother and how she adapted to a new romance and blended family with partner Simon during the chat. They met in 2015 and celebrated their four-year anniversary in October.

She said of having Simon in their life: ‘This is new for all of us, there’s been massive changes in my life. I thought I was going to be a single mum forever. The first shock of being a single mum was horrible.

‘It’s not a blueprint I recognised, when I got into the role of a single mum, I had the fear of, “How am I ever not going to be a single mum?” I really like how this flows. I really love me and my girls, it feels like it’s us against the world.

Her love: The presenter, 42, joined Sophie Ellis-Bextor on her podcast, Spinning Plates, where she discussed adapting to her romance with partner Simon Motson

‘I love that we go everywhere together, I love that they’re my three amigos, it’s a really lovely feeling.’

Talking about adapting to dating as a single mother, Myleene admitted that it is ‘terrifying’ and that she wouldn’t let Simon in the house until she knew his history.

She continued: ‘Everyone says, “Dating when you’ve got children must be fun”, and it’s terrifying. It’s absolutely terrifying. You’ve got a crepey belly now and keep looking at your phone on the date in case there’s something wrong with the kids.

‘There’s nothing hot and sexy about dating when you’re a mum. Everyone says, “You must feel like you again, it’s your time”. As a mum, you never feel like you as you’ve got dependence. The novelty [of dating] wore off very quickly.’

Family: Myleene is a parent to Ava, 12, Hero, nine, from her relationship with her ex-husband Graham Quinn, and Apollo, 11 months, with her current partner Simon, 45

Heartache: Graham, a former bodyguard, walked out of their six-month marriage on her 34th birthday. Ava was three and Hero had just turned one

Myleene added that she had to consider her children and whether they would like Simon, she also said that she wouldn’t allow him into their home or lives until she knew his background.

She said: ‘The first thing I checked when I met him, I don’t want to be with someone who had left their family. As soon as I found out he had a family, I refused to meet him until someone could give me a backstory.

‘I wouldn’t meet him, so he rang me and that was our conversation. I wanted to know that he hadn’t had an affair. He had actually been on the receiving end of an affair. I thought, “that’s nice”, I will meet you.’

Myleene added that she wouldn’t allow him in the house until she knew his history and she would never allow anyone to hurt her family again.

Speaking out: Myleene discussed life as a single mother and how she adapted to a new romance and blended family with partner Simon during the chat. They met in 2015 and celebrated their four-year anniversary in October.

She added: ‘I wouldn’t let anyone into this house that would have the potential to do this to the family. If you can have an affair and walk out on your family, you can’t come into this house.’

Talking about dating Simon, she said: ‘When I met Sim, the things I were looking for had changed. You’re not looking for someone just for you anymore. I then had to think, is he going to fit in with my children, is he going to love my children?

‘That’s a massive ask for anybody, I had to do it in reverse. Being asked to love complete strangers in the way you love your children. You’d die for your own children!

‘Everything changes how you look at it, when I was in a pop band, it was fun and you don’t worry about these things.’

Closer than ever: Although the star admitted that navigating life as a blended family has its own challenges, Simon has two children from his previous relationship

Myleene added that she only started dating again when her life felt ‘settled’ and she had moved into a house with her daughters in school.
