Michelle Keegan ‘putting marriage ahead of career’ after quitting Our Girl

Michelle Keegan is reportedly putting family life before her career following her decision to quit BBC’s Our Girl to spend more time in the UK.

The actress announced earlier this month that she would be leaving her role as army medic Georgie Lane on the BBC drama after a final series later this year.

According to reports, Michelle decided to leave the show to spend more time with husband Mark Wright after filming abroad.

“Michelle absolutely loved working on Our Girl – it was her first big job after leaving Coronation Street and helped her to prove herself as an actress,” a source claimed.

“But filming in places such as South Africa and Malaysia for months at a time was starting to take its toll. She knew she couldn’t do it forever and thought it was the perfect time to quit.

"She wants to be based in the UK, and for her and Mark to spend more time together and enjoy their home, hanging out with friends and family,” they added to Heat.

"They eventually want to have children and Michelle knows she couldn’t do that job if pregnant or with young kids.”

Michelle had been filming in locations including South Africa, Nepal and Malaysia, while Mark was also on the other side of the world in Los Angeles presenting, before announcing he’s quit.

Announcing her reason for quitting the show, Michelle said: “I’ve had the most incredible four years on the show and I want to thank the BBC for giving me such an amazing opportunity.

“Playing Georgie has been a life changing role for me. I’ve loved every second of the adventure so it was a very hard decision to make not to return.

She added to The Sun: “I feel it is the right time to explore other exciting opportunities but I’m so happy to be part of the new series coming soon so it’s not the end just yet.”

Michelle revealed last year that she has “no plans” to have a baby with her husband, admitting that her family has been on her case to start a family.

The actress said that, because she’s getting “older” she feels as if she should start a family, but has no plans to have children as her acting career skyrockets.

Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, the actress said when asked about children: “Not yet. Everyone always asks that question. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not getting any younger.

“My mum is on it as well. No plans yet, but we definitely do want children in the future.”
