Michael Sheen slams report suggesting Brexit caused split from Sarah Silverman

Michael Sheen has slammed a report that suggested Brexit caused his split from Sarah Silverman.

The couple dated for four years before calling it quits at the end of last year.

"After the Brexit vote, and the election where Trump became president, we both felt in different ways we wanted to get more involved," the 49-year-old had told The Telegraph.

He continued, "That led to her doing her show ‘I Love You, America,’ and it led to me wanting to address the issues that I thought led some people to vote the way they did about Brexit, in the area I come from and others like it.”

Following the Brexit vote, he made the decision to move back to Britain to get more involved.

“I felt a responsibility to do something, but it did mean coming back here, which was difficult for us because we were very important to each other. But we both acknowledge that each of us had to do what we needed to do," he went on.

But on Saturday night he took aim at the publication over their headline ‘Michael Sheen on Good Omens, sex scenes, and why Brexit led to his break-up’.

He fumed: "Brexit broke up my relationship??? What utter b******s!"

He went on: "And how unbelievably dishonest of @Telegraph to knowingly make it seem like I said that for their bulls**t headline. Shame on you."

Earlier this year, Sarah announced the pair had split. In a statement shared with her 12 million fans on Twitter, the US comedian joked that the pair had "consciously uncoupled".

Borrowing the phrase Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin used to describe their split, she said: "The great @michaelsheen & I consciously uncoupled over Christmas.

"I mean, not ‘over Christmas’ – like that wasn’t the fight that ended it. No fight. We just live in different countries and it got hard. Felt we should just tell y’all so u stop askin, ‘How’s Michael/How’s Sarah?"

Sarah and the British actor, 49, started dating in 2014 and is close friends with his ex Kate Beckinsale.
