Maya Jama has seemingly thrown shade at Ekin-Su Culculoglu after the Love Island winner said she was offered the presenting role for the show.

The new Love Island presenter, 28, was announced as Laura Whitmore’s replacement last week, after the previous host stepped down.

But Ekin-Su, 28, who won the latest series with boyfriend Davide Sanclimenti, claimed that she was actually offered the position first, but turned it down.

Sly dig: Maya Jama has seemingly thrown shade at Ekin-Su Culculoglu after the Love Island winner said she was offered the presenting role for the show

Speaking to PopSugar, she said: ‘I did get offered [the presenting role] I would’ve loved to do it, but I can’t at the minute because of how busy I am.

‘I said I’m not ready for it… I want proper training. I’ve done presenting before, but not to the level of Laura.’

But an insider has claimed to The Sun that Maya was always the first person considered for the job.

The source said: ‘It’s not true. Maya was the first choice for host.’

And Maya made her feelings clear on the subject, by allegedly liking tweets that shared the story debunking Ekin’s claim.

Ekin, meanwhile, showered Maya with praise after she secured the presenting role, saying: ‘She’s funny, intelligent, smart, beautiful. ITV have made a good choice with picking her, I think.’

Maya is to begin hosting the first of two series of the hit ITV2 show, which will be filmed in South Africa, from early 2023.

Maya said in a statement: ‘I’ve always been such a massive Love Island fan and I’m so excited to be hosting one of the nation’s favourite shows! I can’t wait to get into the Villa to meet all of the Islanders.’

Both Maya and Love Island shared a video of herself scrolling through stories about her being the rumoured presenter on various media outlets to confirm the news.

The Love Island account shared: ‘Okay, the rumours are true Say hey to your brand-new #LoveIsland host @mayajama!’
