Shock: Love Island contestant Michael Griffiths has revealed that he fears he has been suspended from his job as a firefighter following his summer in Mallorca

Discussing his return to work as a firefighter the publication reported that Michael said: ‘I need to speak to work as right now as I feel like I will be suspended.

‘The rest is a conversation that I need to have with my boss.’

Michael previously told This Morning presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes his hopes for helping the fire service: ‘Right now I am grateful I even got the opportunity to do it and I still want to support the fire service.

‘I want to do a fireman calendar and I want to donate a lot of the money to the firefighter charity.’

MailOnline have contacted Michael for further comment.

During another interview Michael, who is believed to have rekindled his romance with Joanna Chimonides, also insisted he is ‘super happy’ for his ex Amber Gill, after she was crowned series winner alongside Greg O’ Shea in Monday’s grand final.

Speaking on Tuesday’s Lorraine with co-star Lucie Donlan, the firefighter agreed that she had been on ‘such a journey’ during her time in the villa, and full deserved the victory and half of the £50,000 prize fund.

Chatting to Christine Lampard, Michael said: ‘I’m actually so happy for them, just to see the excitement in Amber’s face I was so happy for her just to see that smile on her face is unbelievable.

‘They didn’t expect that but I’m so happy for them at the same time, Amber’s been on such a journey it’s what she needed at that time it was great. It’s surreal, but I’m really happy for her, she really did deserve it, and Greg’s a lovely guy.’

The Liverpool-born hunk then admitted he was stunned to hear that Islander Maura Higgins had wanted to couple up with him when she entered the villa, but opted to pursue Tommy instead.

He added: ‘That was news to me I was a little bit surprised by that she didn’t made that clear to me,’ before Lucie surprised him by admitting: ‘I knew that she told me at the beginning I just didn’t want to say anything.’

Sadly Micheal went onto confirm that there was never any real spark with the Irish grid girl, saying: ‘Me and Maura were just chatting we got on really well but there just wasn’t anything there for me.’

Despite reiterating his happiness for ex Amber, Michael kept it coy when Christine asked whether he had rekindled his romance with Joanna, after the pair were spotted sharing a steamy smooch on Sunday night.

While Joanna outright denied the kiss ever happened, Michael told Christine: That’s the first time we met since coming out. We don’t know what’s going to happen right now. We are playing everything by ear. We want to sit down and speak about things properly, we have got a lot to discuss. You can’t turn feelings off.’

The appearance came after Michael was left stunned on Monday night, when Amber and Greg were crowned the winners of Love Island 2019.

Posting his reaction to the result on Instagram Stories, he insisted that he ‘did not expect’ his ex to be crowned champion, before cheekily claiming the victory was for ‘ratings.’

Michael, who came under fire from fans for his manipulative ‘gaslighting’ behaviour inside the villa, was speechless when he saw Amber was the winner, saying to the camera: ‘Oh s***, oh s*** I did not expect that.’

Continuing his frenzy, he gasped in shock and screamed: ‘Wow.’

The reality TV star appeared to throw shade former flame’s victory, blurting out the word ‘ratings’ before the clip ended.

Michael spent the evening viewing the episode at Boxpark Wembley where a large screen was erected to show the final.
