However the date and subsequent bedsharing with Jess made Mike realise he still holds a candle for Leanne – with the reality star dumping the blonde beauty in a very awkward chat.

Speaking to Jess, he said: ‘Waking up next to you was very nice. I think you’re beautiful. I do feel that type of way about Leanne though. I do find myself wondering where she is

‘Maybe absence is making the heart grow fonder. I need to be honest with you. I’d say I’m leaning towards Leanne.’

A fuming Jess retorts: ‘I’m shocked, I would’ve been happy to get to know each other but whatever. See ya’ before storming off.

She told twin Eve: ‘I’m a bit shocked. No-one wants to be in a couple where a guy has strong eyes for someone else. If I’d known that I definitely wouldn’t have picked him.’

Mike later pulled Leanne for a chat and came clean about his feelings.

Speaking beforehand, he said: ‘I’m a little bit nervous about speaking to Leanne. my heart is saying go hell for leather, my head is saying it’s early days.’

Chatting to Leanne he said: ‘I woke up, it was nice waking up next to Jess, but as soon as I saw you it was an instant feeling

‘If that’s what I m feeling I’ve gotta follow it. I don’t think me and her are gonna go anywhere.’

Leanne said: ‘I’m so happy. I’ll follow you wherever you go.’

Mike said: ‘Let’s pick up where we left off because I missed those cuddles from the first night. This is the start of something.’

Fans were left divided after Mike’s unexpected declaration, particularly as he had said earlier in the day:  ‘I am willing to get to know Jess a bit more than I was letting on.’

He had also told Leanne: ‘I have to be open and honest. It was a good date. Nothing’s changed in wanting to get to know you but I still want to get to know Jess. It wouldn’t be fair to her to close that off.’

He also said he wouldn’t share a bed with Jess if Leanne didn’t want him to.

One fan wrote: ‘My heart was so full watching Mike confess his feelings for Leanne’ while another wrote ‘I still don’t trust Mike but since he seems to know where home is I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Another wrote: ‘Obviously I loved to see Mike running back to my good sis Leanne. However I am keeping a close eye on him. He hasn’t earned my trust yet.’

The dramatic episode also saw Ollie Williams  reveal leaving the villa was ‘the hardest decision’ of his life on Tuesday night’s episode.

Earlier in the day it was announced that Ollie, 23, has quit the ITV2 series after just three days, with the hunk saying in a statement the show made him realise he was still in love with his ex, Laura Nofer, 23.

Photos had also surfaced over the weekend of him posing with various dead carcasses, guns rested against the corpses, supposedly to promote his hunting business – leading to a furious reaction and an online petition to get him removed from the island.

Gathering his fellow Islanders around the firepit for a chat in a preview clip for Wednesday’s episode, a shaken Ollie looked downcast as he revealed his exit.

He said: ‘This is probably the hardest decision I’ve ever made.’

His revelation left the Islanders in shock with Callum and Connor gasping as the devastating news sunk in.

Earlier in the episode, Ollie had acknowledged his rocky road in the villa but said he wanted to pursue things with Paige.

He said: ‘My heart says I do want to carry on, I do like Paige. I hope and pray that she won’t find anything else to be angry about with me. She’s making me out to be terrible and I’m not. There’s no-one else I fancy in the villa.’

Although the fellow reality stars appeared to lament Ollie’s exit, fans rejoiced at the ‘trophy hunter’ quitting the show.

Love Island continues on Wednesday at 9pm on ITV2
