Lorraine Kelly addresses ‘tough’ career move from ITV show as she pens novel

Lorraine Kelly announces debut novel

She announced that her upcoming novel titled, The Island Swimmer, would be out next February and was available for pre-order.

In a video, Lorraine told fans it was “a dream come true”, as she gave a short synopsis of the story.

The book will be set in Orkney, an archipelago located off the northeastern coast of Scotland.

Lorraine added that it was a place she “loved and adored” and was integral to the story.

“It’s very much a character in itself,” the Scottish TV presenter explained.

The story will follow a woman’s journey as she learns to connect with a community of whale-watching swimmers.

Lorraine couldn’t hide her excitement as parts of the story seemed to mirror her hobbies and experiences, including her enjoyment of water sports.

“I wanted to bring my passion for that to the story as well.”

She mentioned that whilst the journey as a new writer was “really hard”, it was “so rewarding”.

She ended the video wishing fans would enjoy the book as much as she had enjoyed writing it.

Fans quickly responded with messages of support, with one writing: “Looking forward to reading it when it comes out.”

Another added: “Hope you will do a book signing and come to @JarroldNorwich.”

Lorraine has written four non-fiction books, the most recent being in 2014 titled, Lorraine Kelly’s Scotland.

She also contributed to author Chae Strathie’s book, Scotland: The People, The Places, The Stories, with a foreword.

The exciting news follows last week’s announcement that the Lorraine show had an exclusive interview with Michael J. Fox, 61, following the release of his Apple TV+ documentary.

Lorraine shared with her 515,000 Instagram followers that it was “an honour” to speak with the actor and activist.

“A very special and exclusive interview for you tomorrow, join @lorrainekellysmith at 9am on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.”

ITV shared that Lorraine’s was the only interview with the Back to the Future star in the UK.
