Lily Allen debuts new peach-tinted ‘mushroom’ bob – and you can DIY the look for £6

We all know there’s a short hair movement happening in the hair world, but did you know Lily Allen was one of the first celebrities to switch from long lengths to a short and blunt cut? Well, she was definitely at the forefront of the bob trend anyway.

Now, Lily is making a bid to bring pastel hair colours into A/W23 with an ‘antiqued’ peach shade that plays on a washed-out version of this season’s must-have colour: cowboy copper.

The singer, 38, has been snapped shopping for books in Manhattan’s Soho neighbourhood looking incredibly cool with her new and on-trend hair. The salon behind the fresh hue – NYC’s Suite Caroline salon – has also posted a close-up look of the colour in all its glory on Instagram.

“Antiqued Peach painted by@lenaottand cut by@howardreyeshairfor Lily,” the salon captions a clip they regrammed from Lily’s Stories.

It’s also clear from the video that Lily’s previously “French girl” inspired bob has transitioned into more of a mushroom shape, meaning the curved appearance of the fringe and ends takes a more bowl-like shape.

“Those eyes with the hair colour is fantastic,” comments one fan, while a second raves: “That colour is stunning”.

If you have light to mid blonde hair, you can very easily copy this peachy tone for yourself at home and save yourself some money on salon costs. We’d recommend shopping Bleach London’s Awkward Peach Super Cool Colour,£6.50 here, which gives hair a semi-permanent tint that lasts up to around six washes. We also like Josh Wood Colour’s Pastel Glaze in Peach,£10 here.

As we say, Lily has been slowly transitioning her look from the dark, mid-length choppy cut we saw her wear all through the mid 2010s. She first revealed stage one of her hair makeover in 2021 when cut a daring micro fringe herself at home (lockdown had even celebs chopping their own tresses!).

“Cut and coloured my own hair using @joshwoodcolour,” she posted at the time, flicking her impressively shiny hair at the camera.

We also wondered if maybe Lily had been bingeing on Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix as her hair seemed to take inspiration from Anya Taylor Joy’s micro fringe in that series.

Lily entered phase two of her hair transformation in February of this year when she went blonde. Teasing the look on Instagram, she wrote: “Can I speak to the manager?”

We definitely wouldn’t call Lily’s new look a Karen cut!
