Lara Spencer Apologizes For ‘Stupid & Insensitive’ Comment About Prince George & Ballet

After facing intense backlash on social media, Good Morning America co-anchor Lara Spencer is apologizing AGAIN for making insensitive comments about Prince George‘s rigorous school schedule, which includes a ballet class.

On a Thursday segment of the morning show, Spencer caught flack for laughing about the young royal’s dance course while sharing information about his sessions at school. As images of the six-year-old flashed on screen, she said:

“He looks so happy about the ballet class. Prince William says George absolutely loves ballet. I have news for you Prince William: We’ll see how long that lasts.”

The 50-year-old apologized on-air early Monday morning:

“The comment I made about dance was stupid and insensitive and I am deeply sorry. I spoke with several members of the dance community over the last few days. I have listened. I have learned about the bravery that it takes for a young boy to pursue a career in dance. And last night, I sat down with three influential dancers who lived it firsthand.”

The show then cut to clips of Miz Spencer — who shared this Monday she hopes to “turn a negative into a teachable moment” — speaking to pro dancers Robbie FairchildTravis Wall, and Fabrice Calmels.

Lara’s new admission of regret comes after an initial apology shared to Instagram on Friday, which didn’t cut it for many on social media. Accompanied by a photo of mountains, she wrote:

“My deepest apologies for an insensitive comment I made during pop news on Thursday. From ballet, which I took as a kid, to anything in life you wish to explore, I fully believe we should all pursue our passion. Go climb your mountain and love every minute of it.”

Members of the dance community were among those outspoken on social media about Spencer’s comment, including Wall, who shared his own story of being bullied as a young dancer:

The So You Think You Can Dance choreographer shared the GMA co-host reached out to him directly, saying on his IG Story Saturday:

“She is completely horrified and just issued this massive apology. I could just hear the horror in her voice. … She knows that there’s a bunch of us, Broadway and a lot of the ballet community here in New York City, we’re going down to Good Morning America on Monday morning and taking ballet class outside. She’s aware of it and she wants to talk to all of us and she wants to set this thing straight and right. The dance community is incredible and yeah, our voices were heard, which is fantastic, so hooray!”

And they did just that!!
