Game of Thrones’ Jack Gleeson looked unrecognisable as he returned to acting ten years after first playing Joffrey Baratheon in the series.

The actor, 29, who stepped away from the spotlight following his stint on the show signed up to star in both a stage play and sitcom following the COVID pandemic.

Best remembered as the baby-faced King, before meeting his untimely end in 2014, now sports a moustache and shoulder length hair.

The actor recently wed his long-term girlfriend Roisin O’Mahony in County Kerry, Ireland. 

Following his role in the HBO fantasy hit, he said he intended to retire from acting because he stopped enjoying it as much as he used to.

Discussing his early retirement from the profession in 2014, he told Entertainment Weekly: ‘The answer isn’t interesting or long-winded. I’ve been acting since age eight.

‘I just stopped enjoying it as much as I used to. And now there’s the prospect of doing it for a living, whereas up until now it was always something I did for recreation with my friends, or in the summer for some fun.

‘I enjoyed it. When you make a living from something, it changes your relationship with it. It’s not like I hate it, it’s just not what I want to do.’

He returned to acting in 2020 and undertook a role in a six-part comedy Out of Her Mind written by Sara Pascoe.

As well as appearing in a stage version of the novel To Be A Machine, explored the transhumanist movement – the belief and use of technology to further the capabilities of the human body.

As Joffrey lay dying and his pale skin turned purple, the Purple Wedding nickname became clear.

It comes after the show’s prequel House Of The Dragon was given the greenlight for season two just days after the first episode of the HBO series premiered on August 21.

Set years earlier in the same universe of George R.R. Martin’s books, House of the Dragon depicts the glory days of the ancestors of popular Game of Thrones characters, such as Daenerys Targaryen.

The show raked in a total of 10 million viewers the night of its premiere, Variety reported, causing little hesitation in a renewal.

Due to additional playbacks, the number has spiked up to a whopping 20 million, causing the Game Of Thrones prequel to be HBO’s largest premiere audience to date.
