George Clooney has made some lifelong friendships during his extraordinary career.

The actor, 61, was on The Drew Barrymore Show Friday to promote his latest film, Ticket To Paradise, which co-stars longtime pal Julia Roberts. The pair star as a divorced couple who travel to Bali to try to prevent their daughter’s hasty marriage.

While discussing other topics, Drew brought up ER, which George admitted ‘changed my career.’

When referring to what made the Emmy winning drama so special, the Oscar winner answered thoughtfully, ‘I guess it was the friendship I have with all of them and that I continue to have.

‘I had (Anthony) Tony Edwards (and wife Mare Winningham) at the house in Italy a couple, three weeks ago.’

George starred on the medical drama for five years as Dr. Doug Ross.

‘I’m still really close with Julianna (Margulies) and Noah (Wyle) and Eriq (La Salle.) They’re really good friends, and so I feel that was the job of a lifetime.’

Drew also mentioned an embarrassing incident that took place when she and George were filming 2002’s Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, his directorial debut.

Speaking about his concern for the young actress, George recalled, ‘We were in Montreal and we were all stuck up there together,’ he recalled, ‘and you had just gone through a divorce, remember, you had come up there and it was an emotional time for you.  And so it felt like it was really incumbent on us to make sure that you were going to be okay and that was fun.’

The Good Night and Good Luck director is well-known for his generosity, once giving 14 of his friends $1 million in cash in 2013. It was his way of thanking them for helping him out when he was a struggling actor.

After one of his friends leaked the news, George explained why he wanted to give his friends the money in a 2020 interview with GQ.

‘I’ve slept on their couches when I was broke. They loaned me money when I was broke. They helped me when I needed help over the years. And I’ve helped them over the years. We’re all good friends. And I thought, you know, without them I don’t have any of this. ‘
