Hits Radio host Gemma Atkinson, 38, has slammed claims that her partner Gorka Márquez, 32, has plans to leave the popular BBC One show. Gorka narrowly missed out on winning Strictly Come Dancing this year with partner Helen Skelton, 39.

After rumours arose that Gorka had apparently decided to quit the show after getting a “seven year itch”, fans were left gobsmacked by the news.

However, Gemma took to social media today to set the record straight once and for all.

Sharing a screenshot of the article claiming that Gorka was throwing in the towel, Gemma strongly denied the claims in view of her 1.8 million Instagram followers.

“Keep being sent this,” she wrote with a facepalm emoji.

“Wish I hadn’t said to all the backstage crew ‘see you next year’ now,” she added with a cheeky winking emoji.

“Obv this isn’t true at all! Same as it wasn’t true about Gio last Christmas. Merry Christmas!”

Gorka has not directly addressed the rumours himself, but he seemed to confirm he would be back next year ahead of the reports.

He told his followers: “Strictly 23 let’s go! In the meantime, keep dancing”.

Last week was the third time in Gorka’s Strictly career that he just missed out on winning the competition.

Following this, The Sun reported that Gorka was feeling a “seven-year itch” from being on the show for so long.

According to the publication, a source said: “He looked so devastated last week because he knew the final might be his last chance of taking home the Glitterball, which had eluded him twice before.

“Gorka has become an established figure in the contest and a name in his own right, which could allow him to go on to bigger things.

“There’s no suggestion of any bad feeling between him and the BBC,” the source continued.

“It remains to be seen if producers will now offer him a deal enticing enough to sign up for next year’s show.”

A BBC spokesperson declined to comment when contacted by Express.co.uk.

Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal were the latest stars to lift the glitterball trophy on Strictly Come Dancing this year.

Following the results, Gemma took to social media to share how “gutted” she was to not see her partner win.

As Gemma and Gorka walked home from the Strictly after party in some warm winter clothes, she said: “We’re here. Just got back. We’re gutted. I’m gutted.”

Gorka paused for a moment, before adding: “What can I say? Life moves on.”

“Life moves on,” Gemma agreed. “You both did bl**dy fab and Helen’s marvellous, bless her,” she continued, as Gorka added: “She smashed it.”
