FIRST LOOK trailer for Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen drops

The Gentlemen FIRST LOOK: Glam cockney Michelle Dockery is a far cry from Downton Abbey while Hugh Grant is unrecognisable as a wheeler-dealer in trailer for new Guy Ritchie film

Guy Ritchie has gone back to gangster flicks, after directing the live-action Aladdin movie for Disney last summer.

And as he preps to release new film The Gentlemen in early 2020, the first trailer has dropped – featuring its stellar cast.

The likes of Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam and Colin Farrell appear, with the plot centering around a drug lord who tries to sell off his highly profitable marijuana empire to a dynasty of billionaires.

Perhaps most surprising about the trailer are Michelle Dockery and Hugh Grant.

The former has traded in her reputation as the aristocratic Lady Mary from Downton Abbey, instead portraying a glamorous cockney; while the latter has shed his typical role as a foppish Englishman to play a slick wheeler-dealer.

Grant – who plays Fletcher – is seen asking Raymond [Hunnam] to ‘play a game’ with him as the trailer opens.

He asks him to ‘imagine a character – your boss Mickey Pearson’ [McConaughey], who is the drug lord at the centre of the story, which has been penned as well as directed by Ritchie.

‘You’re too smart to be blackmailing us, Fletcher,’ Raymond warns.

Mickey is seen entering his marijuana lab explaining that ‘sweet Mary Jane is my vice’.

Golding plays the ‘millennial firework’ antagonist, who attempts to make Mickey an offer.

‘I am not for sale,’ is Mickey’s reply.

Fletcher explains that ‘the plot begins to thicken’ and that there is ‘a lot of money at stake’.
