The Dixie Chicks have changed their name to simply “The Chicks.”
The iconic country-pop band also changed their website URL and updated their Instagram handle to the new name on Thursday.
The music trio of Natalie Maines, Emily Strayer, and Martie Maguire announced the change of name with a single line caption on their website, “We want to meet this moment.”
The change in branding also reflected on a new music video for their protest song, “March, March,” and the cover of their comeback album Gaslighter.
The Dixie Chicks adopted the new name with the permission of a New Zealand sibling music duo that holds the same name.
“A sincere and heartfelt thank you goes out to ‘The Chicks’ of NZ for their gracious gesture in allowing us to share their name. We are honored to co-exist together in the world with these exceptionally talented sisters,” the country music stars said in a statement, referring to sisters Judy and Sue Donalds, who scored several hits on the New Zealand charts.
The sisters took it in good spirits, it seems.
“With everything that’s going on in the US at the moment, they wanted to change to The Chicks, and they were nice enough to get in touch,” The Chicks told the NZ Herald.
