Cher trolled for lip-syncing during Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Cher accused of LIP-SYNCING during Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City… but fans leap to her defense saying EVERYONE does it

Cher has been accused of lip-syncing during her performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.

Held as always in Manhattan, the seasonal extravaganza was briefly stalled by pro-Palestine protestors who glued themselves to Sixth Avenue.

Ultimately the festivities were able to proceed, with Cher, 77, making an appearance at the end to deliver a rendition of her new single DJ Play A Christmas Song.

However a few viewers were quick to leap onto social media and allege that they could tell Cher was only miming the words.

Some eagle-eyed observers pointed to one moment when she moved her microphone away from her face but the sound of her voice was unaffected.

One wrote: ‘Cher looks great but she’s lip syncing, and it’s AWFUL LOL,’ and another vamped: ‘Cher almost forgot she was lip syncing while taking off her coat’.

On the other hand, a number of Cher fans sprang to her defense, arguing that lip-syncing is de rigueur at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

‘Every one of them lip-syncs for the parade,’ wrote one user of X, formerly Twitter. ‘Cher’s outfit and overall Cher-ness outshines the lip-syncing.’

‘Every single performer has been lip syncing for years. I don’t enjoy it but i get it for the sake of the parade,’ tweeted another observer, adding that in his opinion ‘Cher, at her age, still performing is still awesome.’

‘I for one am shocked that Cher is lip syncing at the parade,’ wrote someone else sarcastically. ‘Just aghast at this revelation. What’s next, you’re gonna tell me professional wrestling is scripted???’

One fan snapped: ‘I DONT WANT TO HEAR ONE WORD ABOUT CHER LIP SYNCING BECAUSE EVERY PERFORMANCE ON THE PARADE IS LIP SYNCING.’

The parade began in 1924 and has run annually ever since, except for three years during World War II when the helium and rubber were diverted to defense uses.

Cher’s entry into the Thanksgiving tradition comes about a month after the release of her first-ever Christmas album, entitled simply Christmas.

The record includes original material as well as a few older seasonal songs, including Santa Baby, Run Rudolph Run and Please Come Home For Christmas.

She teamed up with Stevie Wonder for a duet of his old Motown number What Christmas Means To Me, and with Michael Buble to reprise his 2005 song Home.

The featured artists on the album range from legacy acts like Darlene Love and Cyndi Lauper to Kylie Jenner’s ex-boyfriend Tyga.

‘They’re not “Christmas Christmas” songs, OK, they’re just great songs,’ Cher assured Billboard. ‘And I never say that because I almost never like what I do.’

In a Paper magazine interview to promote the album, she candidly revealed: ‘I just never liked my voice that much. If I had my choice, I probably would have another one, but I didn’t get my choice. I got my mother’s voice.’

Elaborating on the traits of her ‘weird’ vocal quality, she said: ‘It doesn’t sound like a man, it doesn’t sound like a woman. I’m somewhere more in-between.’

The Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves singer reflected: ‘I have this strange style. I do what you do when you can’t hold a note: I don’t pronounce my Rs. I guess some consonants are hard to sing, so I just gotta leave them open.’

She allowed that ‘people seem to like it and I’m happy as a clam, but I wouldn’t have picked it. I liked it on my mother and it’s definitely my mom’s voice.’

Cher, who was famously devoted to her late mother, added: ‘My mom’s is softer, mine is edgier – different, but the same, but I don’t think I would have picked it.’
