BGT fans BLAME David Walliams as Richard Jones doesn’t make final

‘It’s all your fault!’ Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions fans BLAME David Walliams as magician Richard Jones fails to make it to the final after emotional performance

He was crowned champion of Britain’s Got Talent in 2016, where he was joined by Fergus Anckorn – the longest-serving member of the Magic Circle.

However, Richard Jones failed to emulate his past success during Saturday night’s Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions as he didn’t make it through to the grand final – and fans have blamed David Walliams.

The soldier left everyone in tears as he paid tribute to the late war veteran Fergus, but it wasn’t enough for David to reach for his golden buzzer.

Robbed? Richard Jones failed to emulate his past success during Saturday night’s Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions as he didn’t make it through to the grand final – and fans have blamed David Walliams

At the end of the jam-packed two-hour show, hosts Ant and Dec revealed the top three acts as voted for by the ‘super fans’ in the audience.

Richard, illusionist Darcy Oake and DJ Arch Jr made it into the top three, with seven-year-old DJ Arch finishing in third place.

Then came the nail-biting big result, with Canadian Darcy eventually pipping Richard to the post and gaining a spot in the grand final.

However, despite Richard being gracious in defeat, it wasn’t enough for viewers at home who blamed David for the result.

Backlash: The soldier left everyone in tears as he paid tribute to the late war veteran Fergus, but it wasn’t enough for David to reach for his golden buzzer

Taking to Twitter, many felt that David should have pressed his buzzer for Richard and in not doing so, Richard is now out of the competition.

‘It’s all your fault David Richard was so much better than the old dancer. Should have been Richard and Darcy. #Endoff’, fumed one angry watcher.

While another wrote: ‘@richjonesmagic you should’ve won infact you should’ve got the golden buzzer #Respect #BGT.’

A third unimpressed person added: ‘David messed up, sorry to say it but he did, but well done to all the winner #BGT.’

With an additional BGT viewer seething: ‘David you idiot – everyone said you should have pressed the buzzer for Richard now HES GONE #bgt.’

Earlier in the evening, the 28-year-old military man wowed as he put on a powerful magic display where he paid homage to Fergus’ life and legacy.

Fergus sadly died in March 2018 aged 99 from bladder cancer, two years after joining Richard on stage during his 2016 winning performance.

Following his act on stage, which saw all four judges give him a standing ovation, Richard was left visibly emotional as he opened up about Fergus’ passing.

Speaking after his performance, he told hosts Ant and Dec: ‘I knew it was going to be an emotional act because of what I was talking about but seeing the support from the room I didn’t expect it, and it threw me a little bit.

‘Sorry for getting so emotional, it’s just such a kind thing to see. I really appreciate it.’

Despite Richard’s routine sending the audience wild, and Alesha Dixon urging him to press his buzzer, David didn’t feel he need his golden buzzer.

Speaking to Richard he said: ‘I’ve never seen a reaction like this for anybody, I don’t think you need my golden buzzer!’

Noting Richard’s sadness, Simon Cowell said afterwards: ‘Before we even knew what you were going to do tonight, I looked into your eyes and I could see your eyes welling up.

‘You were emotional before, during, after, for all the right reasons. What defines a Champion is someone who has won but has the confidence to come back and defend what they’ve won, and that’s why we made this show.

‘I don’t know how the hell you have these powers, but you linked in your friend as well, and paid respect to him.

‘You showed us why you won the show that year, and I remember the afterglow of you winning the show as well, so it’s an honour to have you competing with us again.’

The twinkle-toed duo put on a showstopping routine which left everyone on their feet and in awe of Paddy’s agility.

And David was clearly in agreement as he excitedly pressed his buzzer for the pair.
