Ben Affleck calls Jennifer Lopez ‘the real deal’ as he reveals he STILL ‘keeps in touch’ with his ex of over 16 years

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez parted ways in 2004, ending their A-list engagement after two years together.
And though their relationship ended over 16-years-ago, the Boston-bred actor recently revealed that the pair still ‘keep in touch.’
Ben, 47, only had nice things to say about the triple-threat, 50, telling the New York Times that he has ‘a lot of respect’ for the Hustlers actress, who he also called ‘the real deal.’

‘I keep in touch periodically with her and have a lot of respect for her,’ Affleck said of his former love.
The Academy Award winner went on to praise Lopez for talent, telling the paper of record: ‘How awesome is it that she had her biggest hit movie at 50?’

Ben and Jennifer – affectionately called ‘Bennifer’ during their romance – first met while working together on the 2003 film Gigli.
Affleck proposed to her in November of 2002, only propelling their super couple status.
But things took a dramatic turn when the pair cancelled their September 2003 nuptials just one day before they were set to take place.
By January 2004, the pair officially called it quits – a break-up which was later largely attributed to the overwhelming media attention they faced.

Reflecting on the relationship in 2016, Lopez told Extra: ‘We didn’t try to have a public relationship. We just happened to be together at the birth of the tabloids, and it was like “Oh, my God.” It was just a lot of pressure.’
Ben went on to date future wife Jennifer Garner, who he wed in 2005. The pair – who share three kids – split in 2015, largely due to Affleck’s struggles with alcohol and substance abuse.
Affleck now calls the divorce the ‘biggest regret’ of his life.
‘The biggest regret of my life is this divorce,’ he told the Times. ‘Shame is really toxic. There is no positive byproduct of shame. It’s just stewing in a toxic, hideous feeling of low self-worth and self-loathing.’
Still, Garner has stayed by to support Affleck amid his recovery, often seen spending time together as a family.
