Ariana tweeted yesterday that she was only joking when she urged fans to buy her album to make it number one because “you don’t know what Travis Scott could pull.” The comment was made during her first Sweetener Session in New York in an on-stage exchange with her manager, Scooter Braun.
Some felt the comment was a “shady” reference to the argument that her friend and collaborator, Nicki Minaj, has be making about the sales-boosting marketing techniques that Travis and his girlfriend Kylie Jenner have been using since the launch of his currently No. 1 album, Astroworld.
Yesterday afternoon Ariana went on Twitter to clarify that she only made the comment for “comedic effect” because she ‘adores’ Travis and Kylie and is a “v loving little babe:”
Ultimately, the argument about the top chart position might have been academic by the time Ariana tweeted yesterday – or she may just have been trying to patch things up a little from a PR or personal perspective – because either way it appears that her newly launched album is in a good place. Complex reports that the latest projections are that Ariana’s fourth studio album is now on pace to sell as many as 220,000 copies in its first week, easily projecting to being number 1 on the Billboard charts this week.
