Leigh Sales has opened up about her dating life and revealed the type of man she is looking for.

‘I think what people find hard sometimes is the way other people interact with them,’ she explained.

Leigh went on to say most people feel ‘they are punching above their weight’ when they date her.

‘So the message they’re getting is, ‘You’re punching above your weight’. And I think that’s a hard message for men to get. That’s not the message I give people I’m in a relationship with or dating, but sometimes you can feel very scrutinised,’ she said.

Leigh was previously married to Phil Willis but the couple separated in December 2016 after 20 years.

The ABC host, 49, told the No Filter podcast, she is looking for someone confident as most people find her intimidating

It comes after the 7:30 host announced she was quitting her role in February, with her final shows to air this week.

She said upon the announcement of stepping down that it was time she ‘passed the baton on to the next runner in the race and take a break’.

‘At the end of an election cycle feels like a good time to move on to something new at the ABC,’ she told viewers.

‘I think you need to be reasonably confident to [ask me out] but I also think most people once they meet me and kind of get to know me realise very rapidly I’m not really intimidating,’ she said

‘I hope it’s been obvious that I’ve always approached this job with one goal – and that is to ask frank questions of people in power, without fear or favour, that a fair-minded, reasonable person with some common sense watching at home might like to ask if they were sitting in my position.’

The Australian said the wheels are already in motion for her next venture.

The outlet said the esteemed journalist could be returning to the ABC’s primetime slot next year in a new show interviewing celebrities and interesting world figures.

‘Ms Sales, who led 7:30 for 12 years, could be looking to introduce a new show that is a ‘cross between Denton and Oprah Winfey’, The Australian’s Nick Tabakoff said.
