Sir Salman Rushdie’s daughter-in-law yesterday revealed she had been fighting for her life with Covid.
Urging followers to get vaccinated, Natalie Rushdie, 34, shared a selfie from her hospital bed – which showed her with her eyes barely open and a tube in her nose.
The jazz singer, who has a history of heart problems, wrote on Instagram: ‘This is Covid. I have been fighting for my life the last week in hospital.
‘I don’t have much energy but I beg that you get the vaccine.’

Mrs Rushdie married Zafar, the son of Booker Prize-winning novelist Sir Salman, in June 2016 and they had their first child last October
She continued: ‘I got my vaccine text the day I found out that I had Covid.
‘Wear a mask and socially distance yourself because the alternative is horrific! Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.’
In a warning to those who refuse the jab, she added: ‘To the anti-vaxxers, this is for you. You’re idiots.
‘You’re putting yourself and other people in danger. This could be you.’

Mrs Rushdie married Zafar, the son of Booker Prize-winning novelist Sir Salman, in June 2016. They had their first child last October.
Among those to send well wishes was Irish singer Imelda May who wrote: ‘I am horrified to hear you’re having such a struggle to live!
‘I send you so much love and strength. I hope you get home soon.’
