She earned high accolades for her acting career but turned the page on her time in front of the camera to pursue a lifestyle brand.

And Gwyneth Paltrow admitted in the November edition of Elle that creating Goop helped her flourish in ways she was not quite so prepared for.

Despite her stellar career — which includes a Best Actress Academy Award for her role in 1998’s Shakespeare in Love — Gwyneth was not convinced the industry was a place for her to shine.

‘In the ’90s, when I was coming up, it was a very male-dominated field,’ she admitted. ‘You used to hear, “That actress is so ambitious,” like it was a dirty word.’

She starred in a host of roles on film and television, but turned her attention to the health and wellness industry in 2008 with the launch of Goop.

She said that ‘my ambition has been unleashed’ upon finding her true calling within the Goop-sphere.

What started as a weekly e-mail newsletter with tips and tricks to living your best life, soon spawned into a multi-million dollar empire with products, clothing, pop-up shops and highly publicized wellness summits around the country with Paltrow’s celebrity friends taking speaking roles at panels and presentations.

The company was valued at around $250million in 2018, a number she hopes has changed significantly over the year.

‘That’s an old number,’ she said before being asked if the figure is higher or lower. ‘Of course it’s higher. Thank goodness. Oh my God.’

With corporate headquarters in Santa Monica, California, and more than a dozen staff members on her roster, Paltrow took a break from the acting world to focus on Goop, but is making a triumphant return with her husband Brad Falchuk’s latest collaboration with Ryan Murphy, The Politician.

Based on a wealthy family in the Santa Barbara area, Gwyneth admitted that her character as a mother was easy to dive into with experience raising her two children, Moses, 13, and Apple, 15.

‘The way [my character is] as a mother is most closely based on me,’ Paltrow said. ‘He was also borrowing from other aspects of my life.’

Gwyneth was joined by powerful leading ladies in the industry for the female-focused issue, as Nicole Kidman stunned in a black-and-white cover also shot by Zoey Grossman.
