OK, skincare lovers. Run, don’t walk. Rihanna’s viral skincare brand Fenty Skin is finally back in stock after nearly a month. But opinions on the Bad Gal-bred brand are still stirring up a debate in the skincare community.

While a plethora of serums and cleansers are already packed in our skincare fridges, Fenty Skin stirred up a storm prior to launch on July 31 — and quickly sold out due to the buzz. Though the products are all under $40, Fenty Skin resellers have been listing Fenty Skin Start’r products for upwards of $550.

The collection includes three clean beauty products: the Total Cleans’r, the Fat Water Pore-Refining Toner Serum and the Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen. All three products are made to work together as the dubbed Fenty Skin Start’rs.

“I wanted a product that just worked,” Rihanna said in the Fenty Skin announcement video. “I wanted the best ingredients and I didn’t want it to cost a lot.”

In a press release, Rihanna mentioned how she wanted to produce a deep-cleaning cleanser for removing dirt and makeup. The cleanser’s star ingredient, Barbados cherry, contains even more vitamin C than an orange and helps brighten the skin. The blend includes antioxidant ingredients like green tea and fig to reduce inflammation and irritation.

“Washing your face is the most important step for good skin,” Rihanna said in the release. “Especially when you’re wearing makeup, breaking a sweat in the club, exercising — whatever your thing is.”

After trying the cleanser for myself, I found the texture to be a hybrid of creamy and foamy. Plus, it smells delicious. This cleanser removed most of my full face of makeup, but there were remnants of mascara. However, my normal-dry skin didn’t feel stripped after pat drying.

Next is Fat Water — and the name is no joke. This is a fat water. The product has the jelly-like consistency of a lightweight serum, but is nourishing like a hydrating toner. With the twist of the cap, a hole opens and with a gentle squeeze, the bottle distributes product.

Though the controversial astringent witch hazel is the second ingredient in this toner-serum (which can strip the skin), ingredients like niacinamide and cactus flower extract are soothing properties featured in Fat Water.

My skin loved this toner-serum hybrid because it gave my pores the moisture it needed but without the greasy or sticky feeling that many serums leave behind.

Arguable the most important product in the line is the sunscreen moisturizer. Getting people to wear sunscreen is tough, but Fenty Skin might just convince you otherwise.

The skincare line has positioned itself as an environmentally-conscious brand, making this sunscreen oxybenzone-free and coral reef-friendly. Plus, you can refill the product at a discount with a sold-separately insert. And what’s more? If you’re Black or a POC with dark skin, you won’t look like a ghost or a purple alien using this sunscreen.

It’s worth noting, however, that the product has fragrance, but it’s not perfumey. Depending on your skin’s sensitivity, this one may not be the one for you.

The entire line is available in one bundle for $75. The products are fragrant, which some estheticians point out as a negative in their reviews. But skincare gurus like esthetician YouTuber Nayamka Roberts-Smith (The Golden Rx) and skincare specialist creator Hyram Yarbro don’t think it’s a total dub for that sole fact.

Roberts-Smith rated the SPF moisturizer an 8 out of 10, saying she would much rather you wear an SPF moisturizer than no SPF at all in her review.

“SPF is mandatory if you want to treat dark marks and generally keep your skin healthy,” she says. “UV rays do a lot of cellular damage, and even the darkest skin has an SPF factor of 13.5 max.”

Yarbro also said that the cleanser is the one product he plans to keep using. And although the added fragrance isn’t his favorite feature, the wash-off product does indeed wash off the scent.

“It left my skin feeling super soft and you only need to use a tiny bit,” Yarbro said. “I was surprised how little I used over the past month and how long this cleanser’s going to last.”

Opinions on skincare products will always vary. After all, everyone’s skin is different. But if you are on the hunt for skincare that’s inclusive, environmentally-conscious and simple, Fenty Skin might be your next buy
