A woman was reportedly shot and killed by a police officer in Texas moments after shouting ‘I’m pregnant’.

The woman was in a car park near an apartment building in Baytown at the time of the incident.

Footage circulating on social media shows the officer following the woman, who has not been identified, through the car park as she tells him he is ‘harassing’ her.

The officer then fires a Taser before she falls to the ground. He stands over her, trying to stop her hands from moving, before stepping away again.

She yells ‘I’m pregnant’, before sitting up, at which point he fires his gun five times. It is not known how many times she was shot, but she died at the scene, reports KHOU11.

Baytown Police have reportedly claimed the woman was shot after she grabbed the officer’s Taser and used it on him.

According to heavy.com, Baytown Police Lieutenant Steve Dorris said in a Facebook post on the force’s official account: ‘It is very early in the investigation however what detectives have learned thus far is one of our officers, an 11 year veteran with the department, was patrolling an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Garth Road when he came across a 45-year-old female that he knew from previous encounters and knew she had outstanding warrants.

‘The officer contacted the female and attempted to arrest her at which time a struggle ensued, forcing the officer to deploy his department issued Taser at the female.

‘It appears that as the officer was then attempting to handcuff the female she was able to gain control of his Taser and turned it on the officer, Tasing the officer, which forced the officer to draw his duty weapon and fire multiple rounds at the female, striking her at least once.’

The Baytown Police Facebook appears to have been deleted.
