Woman shot by police in Queens, cops say she had a knife

Police shot and injured a woman who was armed with a knife in Queens Friday night, law enforcement sources said.

The shooting happened just after 10 p.m. near 212th Street and Jamaica Avenue in Queens Village, authorities said.

Two uniformed cops from the 105th Precinct were in their marked radio car, heading west on Jamaica Avenue, when they saw the woman standing in front of a carwash “acting erratically,” Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison said in a statement.

The radio car pulled up alongside her, and the woman threw a glass bottle at the cops as they got out of the vehicle, the statement said.

The saw a knife in her hand, and ordered her to drop it; instead, she walked toward them, the statement said.

One of the officers fired a round, striking her in the lower abdomen. She fled the scene, and was “still in possession of the knife” a block away, the statement said.

“One of the officers successfully deployed their Taser, striking the suspect while the other officer was able to place her into custody, the statement said.

The knife was recovered; the woman was taken to North Shore University Hospital and is expected to survive, sources said.
