Woman punches police horse before cop throws her to the floor by her hair

Horrified diners watched as the woman lay face down on the pavement while other cops swooped in to detain her.

Police confirmed she had been trying to punch an officer out of shot when she missed and landed one on the horse.

The mounted cop was then filmed grabbing the woman by hair and chucking her backwards to the ground in Adelaide, Australia.

It's understood the woman was not charged following the incident.

It came as police made 114 arrests across the state on December 31 as revellers toasted to the new year.

In Sydney, millions of people flooded the streets as Australia became one of the first countries to welcome in 2019.

Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Mark Walton praised party-goers for their behaviour during the celebrations, with 35 people arrested and charged with 43 offences.

He said: "New Year's Eve celebrations in Sydney are widely regarded as some of the best in the world, so it was great to see Sydneysiders living up to that reputation and acting responsibly.

"There were minimal reports of alcohol-related violence, which is a true reflection of how well-behaved the crowds were."

In 2013, Newcastle fan Barry Rogerson was jailed for a year after punching a police horse when his team lost 3-0 to Sunderland.
