Shocking footage of the incident shows the woman, dressed in black, running away from the platform and jumping onto the tracks, with a train swiftly approaching at about 9:20pm.

Luckily, passers-by immediately pulled the woman off the tracks and the train came to a stop right in front of her.

‘I did it as a joke, I’m sorry,’ she was heard telling officers in an interview released by video news site Pear.

‘A joke? It’s not funny at all,’ the officer replied.

‘Someone pulled me up right after I jumped. I turned back and saw the train passing by my feet – I was so scared and my mind went blank,’ she said, cited by Yangzi Evening News.

The woman was later scolded by police officers and train station workers for her rash act

She added that she was still in shock and regretted her actions. The officer said the incident could damage her social credit score – China’s ranking system that monitors the behaviour of its enormous population.

Net users slammed the woman’s rash act, saying that she was reckless and irresponsible.

‘There’s a limit to throwing tantrums. You shouldn’t affect other people – we’re talking about the safety of all the passengers on the train,’ one user commented on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo.

‘I’d say the man should break up with her,’ one user said.

‘Don’t take life as a joke,’ another said. ‘She should have been arrested.’
