When will offices reopen in the UK?

BRITS have been told to go back to work if they can in a bid to get the country back up and running.

But are office workers on this list, and if so, when will offices be reopened?

When will offices reopen?

If the number of coronavirus cases continues to fall, Brits could be asked to return to their offices towards the end of May.

The government hopes that some offices can reopen by May 26, 2020.

This date has not been confirmed yet and could change if the current decrease in coronavirus cases picks back up again.

Brits are being asked to return back to work if possible, to get the economy back up and running, but if office workers are able to work from home they should continue to do so.

How will social distancing work?

Employers will have to limit the number of workers and stagger shift patterns as part of new Covid-secure guidelines.

New measures introduced could see the number of people in the office at any time being limited, by changing shift patterns and rotas so people work in smaller teams.

Bosses will also be expected to help stop people from gathering together and staggering entry and exit where possible.

The Covid-19 secure steps are:

  •  increasing the frequency of hand washing and cleaning
  • keeping people at work for as short a time as possible
  • using screens or barriers to separate people from each other
  • using back-to-back or side-to-side working rather than face-to-face whenever possible
  • reducing the number of people each person has contact with by using ‘fixed teams or partnering’ – so each person works with only a few others
  • limiting meetings

When will lockdown be lifted?

The Prime Minister has told MPs he wants a fast-track return to “near-normality” by July.

This will depend on whether the number of coronavirus cases continues to fall.

The easing of the current restrictions will happen in "baby steps", and the final step will be allowing businesses like cinemas and restaurants to reopen.

But the very earliest this will likely take place is July 4.
