Dominic Cummings' son is called Alexander Cedd.

He was born in 2016 to Dominic Cummings and Mary Wakefield and is the couple's first child.

The four-year-old is known as Ceddy, with his name being taken after Anglo-Saxon saint from Northumbia, who lived in the seventh century.

Young Alexander was drawn into the recent allegations surrounding Mr Cummings' breach of lockdown.

Boris Johnson's senior adviser claimed he travelled to his parents in Durham – 260 miles from his London home – seeking help with caring for his son.

His wife Mary had was showing coronavirus symptoms with Mr Cummings fearing he could not care for Alexander if he contracted the killer bug as well.

A number of Tory politicians have jumped to his defence, including the Prime Minister in his address in Sunday's press conference.

He said: "I've concluded that in travelling to find the right kind of childcare, at the moment when he and his wife were about to be incapacitated by coronavirus and when he had no alternative, I think he followed the instincts of every father and every parent."

Mary Wakefield later said, as reported by Financial Times: "Anyone who's friends with Jack is OK by me."

Ms Wakefield is also the daughter of Sir Edward Humphry Wakefield – an English baronet and owner of Chillingham Castle in Northumberland.
