‘We want to see a sense of urgency’: Merlino urges vaccine recalibration

The federal government could send some of Victoria’s share of AstraZeneca vaccines to GPs, under a recalibrated program aimed at speeding up the vaccine rollout, Acting Premier James Merlino has suggested.

Mr Merlino said the federal government should soon offer the AstraZeneca vaccine to people aged between 50 and 70 years old.

“We want to see change, we want to see action, and most importantly we want to see a sense of urgency, coming out of our national cabinet,” Mr Merlino said.

Mr Merlino said the country’s sole focus must be on vaccinating the population, and speeding up the rollout.

He said Victoria was willing to “recalibrate” the coronavirus vaccine program, and that the Commonwealth could send some of the state government’s share of AstraZeneca vaccines to GPs.
