War Machine apologizes to his porn star ex-girlfriend Christy Mack

‘There’s not a day that I don’t regret it’: War Machine apologizes to his porn star ex-girlfriend Christy Mack in rambling interview where he says ‘no one’ hates him as much as he does and thanks God for saving his soul

  • War Machine, 36, is serving a life with no parole for 36 year sentence in Nevada
  • In 2014, he almost killed his girlfriend Christy Mack by beating her to a pulp
  • He had come home to find her in bed with another man, Corey Thomas
  • Thomas fled the Las Vegas home and left Mack to be attacked by her MMA fighter boyfriend
  • Now, Machine says he has been reformed by God and ‘hates’ the man he was
  • He says it was his fault Mack cheated on him because he treated her so badly
  • Machine, who was born Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver, is now married to a pen pal

War Machine, the former MMA fighter spending life behind bars for brutally attacking his porn star ex-girlfriend when he found her in bed with another man, issued a groveling apology to her this week in a lengthy interview where he described how Jesus had saved him.

The 36-year-old is in prison in Nevada for beating Mack, 27, and Corey Thomas in bed together in Las Vegas in August 2014. He beat Mack so badly that by the time police found her, she had no teeth and had been sexually assaulted.

War Machine (seen left in a recent picture with his prison wife Ashley Farrington and right being sentenced in 2017) regretted nearly  killing his ex-girlfriend Christy Mack and was now a different person

In an interview with filmmaker John Bravo on Wednesday, Machine, who has since married a prison pen pal, said he ‘hated’ who he used to be and asked for his ex’s forgiveness.

‘I hate who I used to be.

‘There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t regret that and I hate it.

‘Nobody hates me as much as I hate the man that I used to be.

‘From the bottom of my heart I apologize to Christy. I’m sorry, Christy. I’m sorry for what happened,’ he said.

To Thomas, who abandoned Christy to be beaten and brutalized by the professional fighter to save himself, he said: ‘Corey you know, you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I pray for you too, I pray for all you guys.’

He added that while he used to blame his ex-girlfriend for his unfathomable violence, he realizes now that he drove her to cheat on him with his ‘constant’ mistreatment.

‘In the beginning, before I found God, it was all her fault.

;Once I found God, my eyes were opened.

Machine attacked his porn star ex Christy Mack, now 27, in August 2014 after finding her in bed with another man. The pair are pictured before then in happier times. He was a professional fighter and, she said at the time, she thought he would have killed her if she hadn’t escaped

Mack was so severely beaten that she had no teeth by the time police found her

Mack’s horrific injuries are shown, weeks into her recovery. Police said she looked like she had been in a car accident when they found her after she escaped the home and got to a neighbor’s to call 911

‘I had to look at that night with the truth of the eyes of Jesus. I put that man in my bed with my constant cheating, constant abuse, constant just neglect. I put that guy in my bed.

‘I created that situation. I was a big old hypocrite and I ended up hurting someone that I love,’ he said.

Machine made an impassioned plea to his remaining fans to not idolize his behavior and instead try to find God themselves.

The woman was in bed with Corey Thomas who fled the home, leaving her to be beaten. Machine, who has found religion in prison, says Thomas was in the ‘wrong place at the wrong time’

‘I really appreciate all the love and support but I just hope none of you look up to the old me.

‘It kills me inside that you guys are still in love with the guy I was, with that alpha male s**t. All the anarchy, all the BS that I used to live.

‘I don’t want you guys to like that. I want you to realize that what I was was bogus and worthless.

‘I want you to learn about the person I am now and avoid my mistakes. I hope you guys don’t idolize too much the person I was.

‘See Jesus, he’s real. He’ll change your life, I promise you,’ he said.

Machine does not credit prison with changing his life, explaining that he’d been in and out of custody before he nearly killed Mack with his beating.

‘I’ve been to jail 2 or 3 times before. Each time before I got worse. I got more hateful, empty, I just got worse and worse. There’s nothing in here,’ he said.

He found God through a pen pal who relentlessly preached her faith to him in letters and sent him religious books.

It was religion which brought him together with his wife Ashley Harrington, a mother-of-one who started writing to him when he was in jail.

He turned her on to God and the pair have an ‘awesome’ relationship, he said.

Mack testified against her ex (seen right in his mugshot) and begged a judge never to grant him parole because she fears he will kill her if he is released. He will not be eligible to be let out until he is 71

Machine’s apology is not his first. After his conviction in 2017, he posted a lengthy Twitter statement which read: ‘Christy, I am sorry for the man that I was, I am sorry for hurting you.

‘One day, when enough time has passed, and when your wounds are fully healed, I hope that you will write to me, or, perhaps, even visit me, so that I can apologize completely.’

Mack testified at his trial in the hopes of keeping him in jail for the rest of his life.

She told the judge that she feared he would kill her if he was ever allowed out of custody.

Mack and Thomas were in bed together when Machine, who legally changed his name to that to boost his career, came home unexpectedly.

He first attacked Thomas, putting him in a choke hold and biting him in their bathroom.

When he let go of his grip, Thomas fled, leaving Mack alone in the house with him.

He beat Mack for ten minutes, knocking out her teeth and sending her in and out of consciousness.

At one stage, he stood over her and said: ‘That’s it. I have to kill you now.’

She was only able to escape when he vanished from their bedroom to, she believes, retrieve a knife from the kitchen to stab her with.

She ran, naked and bleeding, to a neighbors house and called police.

During the trial, Machines’ emotional displays flipped between remorseful and coarsely nonchalant.

He laughed as Mack testified against him at one stage, but mouthed ‘I love you’ during another hearing.
